They will ensure students are serviced in an optimal educational environment conducive to academic excellence, which promotes post-secondary readiness.
Accountabilities:
- Interprets lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, events, and other spoken word situations using manual sign system appropriate for the language and cultural background of deaf/hard of hearing students and staff.
- Works with teachers to gain understanding of relevant concepts to better facilitate translation for deaf/hard of hearing students, according to the student's IEP.
- Teach students and staff to appropriately utilize interpreting services.
- Communicates with local school staff regarding student's progress, abilities, and modifications as appropriate.
- Provide communication support in mainstream classes and activities during the school day, transitions and non-academic activities.
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings, teacher/parent conferences, or other meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain current and accurate data required for student files and IEP.
- Participate in staff development activities that improve job related skills.
- Be informed of an in compliance with state, district and school regulations for students with disabilities.
- Communicate students' progress with student and family on a weekly basis.

- Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student.
- Increase student achievement
- Meet desired goals and benchmarks set at the individual student level as well as campus and district level.
- Ensure development and demonstration of IDEA values
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree from an accredited educational institution
- Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher (preferred)
- Experience in a classroom setting, preferably experience working with low-income students and students with disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of subject area
- Hold appropriate certification from the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) or the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). Interpreters who have a score of at least 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and meet the RID requirements for certified membership may also be eligible to provide interpreting services (19 TAC §89.1131(d)).
