Whittle School & Studios is an ambitious project to modernize education and build the world's best and most innovative environment for human learning and development. Over the next decade we will be constructing 30 Pre-K-12 schools in the world's most vibrant cities, with all of our campuses designed by the renowned architect Renzo Piano.  The project is led by education entrepreneur Chris Whittle.

Our team is comprised of innovators in science, design, technology, and human learning, who are applying their diverse talents to re-engineer education from the ground up. Our focus is on the science of learning, personalized curriculum, global experience, and holistic human development.
Our first two schools will open in the fall of 2019, located in Shenzhen, China, and Washington D.C., United States. 
 
About the position: Chief Operating Officer
The COO will serve as the operational and administrative leader responsible for managing the human resources, finance, technology, facilities and construction, security, food and beverage, transportation and boarding and ancillary (Studios) programs and activities. There will be approximately 6 direct reports that cover the above-mentioned function and this position will report to the group COO, Mr. Joe Keeney. The COO will manage and develop the internal organization processes and infrastructure to allow the educational operations to flourish.  
The COO will work collaboratively with the Head of the School and campus directors responsible for pedagogy to ensure the continuation of rigorous academic and extra-curricular standards.  The position also reports to the Head of School and has management responsibilities for several departments and its administrative staff.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Identify, select, and contract with critical third-party service providers in accordance with organizational policies
  • Lead financial planning including the organizational budgeting process
  • Support the continued creation, development and execution of a strategic plan
  • Recruit and retain key talents working with the Head of School and HR to define hiring and compensation plans
  • Oversee risk management and legal activities, including letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements
  • Manage real estate and facilities and assist in facilities planning, including all real estate acquisitions, construction and renovation projects
  • Develop and maintain the information systems and infrastructure
  • Oversee the administrative functions and day-to-day educational operations
  • Support admission & retention programs
  • Support marketing & communication efforts
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of School and Board of Trustees as they pertain to the operational and administrative functioning of educational operations
Desired Qualifications
  • 5 + years experience with K-12 Independent schools
  • Experience in matrix management and building partnerships with the Head of Schools, and campus leadership
