Position Overview

The Instructional Support Teacher plays the critical role of ensuring continuity of instruction, classroom culture, and school-wide systems by providing coverage in classrooms, as well as throughout Achievement Prep schools, when instructional staff members are absent. This individual supports the network of schools located at Wahler Place and may serve in either the elementary or middle school on any given day. In addition, the Instructional Support Teacher is expected to fully participate in all community-based events and procedures during the school day for one specific school, such as lunch and dismissal, as well as all afterschool commitments required of instructional staff members.

Reports to: Dean of Curriculum & Instruction

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Classroom Support
  • Substitute classes for any and all instructional staff members who are absent on a given dayCollaborate with instructional staff and/or school leader to lesson planning and assessment, when applicableProvide long-term coverage for a specific course, when applicable

School-Wide Support
  • Play an active role in community spaces (i.e. lunch supervision, hallway posts, dismissal facilitation, etc.)Serve as additional support in a classroomProvide small-group tutoringImplement Achievement Prep behavior system with fidelitySupport the facilitation of school-wide testing and examinations

Faculty Engagement
  • Attend all daily morning staff meetings and applicable weekly grade-level meetingsParticipate in all staff professional development sessions

Maintenance of School and Organizational Culture
  • Fully integrate into the school community and assume additional school-wide responsibilities to ensure a strong cultureCollaborate with staff to advance the school's mission and communicate that mission to its constituentsAdhere to and enforce school-wide protocols and policiesActively pursue professional development opportunities, inside and outside of the schoolAssume extracurricular responsibilities, if desired

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degreeExperience working with urban children and/or youthExperience as a tutor, teachers aide/assistant, substitute teacher, etc. (preferred)
