POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision, the Mathematics Coach will ensure the effective implementation of the Mathematics model at the school site. The mathematics Coach will provide support through mentoring, coaching, modeling lessons, observing instruction and offering constructive feedback.

Salary Range: $48,498 - $108,538

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Collaborate with new and experienced teachers as a mentor/advisor to support them in their roles on the school Mathematics program;
  • Assist teachers and administrators in evaluating strengths and weaknesses of Mathematics programs and materials within the regular classroom;
  • Provide teacher support/teacher resource; coordinate and support school Mathematics program;
  • Create, revise, teach and evaluate Mathematics workshops for new and experienced teachers;
  • Develop and coordinate instructional intervention and support programs for students in Mathematics below grade level;
  • Act as a liaison between the teachers, departments, and administrators to coordinate whole school Mathematics program;
  • Model, co-teach, and coach for implementation of exemplary Mathematics strategies and practices;
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions at the district, state, and national level to assist the school administration in creating and implementing professional development for the staff;
  • Meet regularly with teacher and/or department teams to review data, guide planning, and ensure that Mathematics strategies are used effectively in classroom instruction;
  • Collect and report assessment data related to student Mathematics and support staff in using this data in instructional decision making;
  • Observe and give feedback on math instruction in math classes;
  • Work with the community, parents and outside agencies to facilitate Mathematics awareness;
  • Support and interact with local, state, and national Mathematics organizations;
  • Coordinate on-site mentoring assignments and support mentors efforts; and
  • Performs related work as required.


  • Job Requirements:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Grade 6-12 Mathematics pedagogy and current best practices;
  • Demonstrated competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for a variety of audiences;
  • Knowledge of state standards and assessment in Mathematics;
  • Strong coaching skills and ability to collaborate with others;
  • Ability to use and interpret student performance data;
  • Ability to provide professional development support to teachers;
  • Ability to evaluate school's Mathematics instruction;
  • Ability to conduct Mathematics assessment;
  • Must have strong organizational and strategic planning skills; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree required (Mathematics preferred) from an accredited institution; with three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Mathematics required.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Holds or is eligible for a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate in Mathematics.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.
