The focus of the Senior Data Analyst position is to use data to drive progress towards District priorities and goals. The Senior Data Analyst will accomplish this by providing sound survey, strategic, analytic, and project management expertise to Offices within the district and helping to lead the development of district standards for data processes and toolsets for analytics.

The Senior Data Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Fulfills data requests and preparation of data files

  • Cleans, transforms, merges, and matches data from various tables to meet the needs of the ask

  • Identify and operationalize relevant and critical research questions central to the mission and vision of the district and carry out research projects that will yield actionable insights

  • Serve as district expert on research methodology and coach internal CPS staff on the implications, use, and limitations of research findings

  • Compile, manipulate, and analyze data using appropriate statistical techniques

  • Communicate with broad spectrum of stakeholders at varying levels

  • Collaboration with business users to analyze, define and document systems, data sources and business requirements for analytical needs related to department objectives

  • Facilitate relationships and support to other department specific data analysts

  • Ensure data quality and integrity across Offices

  • Establish and ensure adherence to a set of guiding principles for analytic practice

  • Act as a liaison to networks, central office, and ISBE

  • Project management duties when necessary

  • Performs related duties as required



In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Senior Data Analyst must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

  • A bachelor's degree in education, measurement, psychology, social science, public policy, economics, or related field including quantitative coursework; Master's or Doctoral degree strongly preferred



Type of Experience and Number of Years :

  • Three to five years of professional experience in a role requiring data analysis, research, and consultative skills, preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Experience writing code with data analytic tools (SAS preferred, R, SPSS, STATA, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Relational Databases (SQL Server 2012 preferred)

  • Solid oral and written communication, problem solving, organizational and project management skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrated success leading, coaching, mentoring and supporting those they work with

  • Ability to deliver reports and online tools in a fast-paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet established deadlines

  • Ability to work in a team, with technical and non-technical personnel, and across departmental boundaries

  • Flexibility to meet changing departmental needs

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously



Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
