Brief Description:
The High School Director of School Counseling provides leadership, coordination, and innovation in the school counseling department so that all students may receive maximum benefit from the program and services.

Detailed Description:
• Coordinates the delivery of services in the School Counseling Department; assists in the implementation of the School Division and school programs and services in cooperation with the school administration and school counseling supervisor; assists in establishing department objectives and develops a plan for the implementation and evaluation of those objectives; conducts department meetings and attends relevant school, School Division, and professional meetings as needed or required; assists counselors in the handling of day-to-day activities and problems and acts as a resource person for them; assumes responsibility for the ordering, inventorying, and distributing of all departmental materials; advises the Principal on the department's budgetary needs; provides orientation and professional development programs for department personnel; makes recommendations to the principal with regard to departmental personnel.
• Meets with administrators and other department heads to promote collaboration regarding curriculum offerings and delivery; advises counseling staff on Advanced Placement and Dual enrollment course options for students; leads the college preparation process to include facilitating college applications and liaison with college admissions staff, e-transcripts, etc; provides leadership for the AP testing program and related College Board programs and services; assists with SAT and ASVAB testing as appropriate.
• Assists the Principal in the interpretation of the instructional program and Program of Studies for parents and the community; communicates school counseling information and activities to the community both formally and informally; utilizes community resources accordingly.
• Keeps informed on current educational innovations and trends and assists staff in related implementation activities; provides leadership to advance the activities in the Career Center to support college and career planning including assessments, interest inventories, presentations and communication with students and families using Technology to facilitate access and promote engagement; leads professional learning activities for application process for American School Counseling Association RAMP designation; implements RAMP model using data to drive student achievement.
• Assumes regular counseling responsibilities with reduced counselor/student ratio (1:40).
• Serves as a liaison with middle schools, colleges, employers, and community organizations; coordinates the selection of students for awards and scholarships.
• Performs related work as required.

Job Requirements:
• Holds or is eligible for the Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement in Secondary School Counseling; demonstrated experience in leadership roles; administrative endorsement preferred.
• Has minimum three years successful full-time experience as a school counselor at the high school level.
• Has demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
The High School Director of School Counseling reports to the Principal and assumes a supportive relationship with the Supervisor, School Counseling Services.
