NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION : The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS : Candidates must hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree, NYS certification in Reading/Literacy, and a school administrator certificate (SDA, SDL) with demonstrated knowledge of the application of scientifically-based reading research.

EXPERIENCE : Candidates must have completed five (5) years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, at least two (2) years of which must have been at an administrative level. Candidates must be knowledgeable of the NYS Common Core and Next Generation Learning Standards, ELA State Assessments, DIBELS Next, and other District assessments and be proficient in the use of technology to enhance reading instruction.

DUTIES : The Director will oversee implementation of the district reading program grades K-6. The Director will collaborate and coordinate with the Director of English Language Arts (ELA) and other appropriate instructional staff in the Division of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction (CAI) regarding all aspects of the design, implementation, and oversight of reading, including appropriate special education and multilingual education components. An understanding of scientifically-based reading research is required. Responsibilities include:
  • Directing the full and ongoing implementation of the Buffalo Public Schools reading program (K-6), consisting of scientifically-based reading components and practices;
  • Ensuring that curriculum is updated and revised as needed;
  • Ensuring that textbooks and other materials are adopted as appropriate;
  • Establishing a comprehensive and evidence-based RTI process, ensuring effective interventions and implementation;
  • Analyzing available data to monitor implementation effectiveness;
  • Providing instructional support for school implementation;
  • Monitoring data to assess the efficacy of programs and instruction;
  • Overseeing the district-wide and building level professional development in literacy instruction based on the five pillars of reading and spelling and writing;
  • Overseeing the training and work of the district literacy coaches;
  • Supervising and evaluating department staff and teachers as appropriate;
  • Ensuring fiscal efficiency by managing materials inventory, budgeting responsibly, and following appropriate procurement procedures;
  • Initiating and monitoring contracts;
  • The Director carries out additional responsibilities that may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Assessment, & Instruction and the Chief Academic Officer.
