Job Summary

Develops and implements interior design standards and strategies for administrative and educational facilities, including fixed and mobile furnishings and equipment. Oversees the direct purchase, selection, and installation of fixtures, furniture, and equipment for capital improvement projects of new and remodeled schools.

Essential Functions
1. Develops project scopes, plans and designs for District and school building interiors, administrative space planning, and playgrounds, coordinating with other District offices, school administrators, and maintenance personnel
2. Interfaces with school and other District staff, project managers, architects, vendors, and manufacturers to coordinate purchases, delivery, and installation of furniture and equipment.
3. Assists in development of District design guideline specifications for flooring and interior finishes, furniture, fixtures, playgrounds, and school sign marquees. Develops district standards of materials and color selections for construction projects and prepares color boards for approval.
4. Attends design phase review meetings and completes plan reviews for school construction projects, providing input for design consideration.
5. Writes RFQs (Requests for Proposals), bid proposals, and other procurement documents, and processes purchase requisitions.
6. Monitors project budgets to manage project costs within budget.
7. Researches acceptability of products, systems, designs, and new technologies.
8. Provides guidance and assists school administrators and parent groups on school based projects.
9. Leads and maintains communications with district and external contacts on interior design, space planning, playgrounds, signs and other assigned programs. Provides reports on project status and responds to emails and other correspondence.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, or related field, from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Demonstrated successful experience and management of interior design projects, district wide coordination of furniture, fixtures, and equipment purchasing preferred.

Certifications & Licenses: Registered Interior Designer in Florida preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations governing interior planning and design of public facilities
• Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of large-scale interior building design and construction
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills
• Strong interior design database management skills
• Strong skills using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software for design space requirements
• Strong Construction project management skills
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents for designated furniture and equipment requirements
• Ability to assist end users in selection of furniture, equipment, furnishings, and color selections
