THE POSITION
The primary responsibility of the K-8 Supervisor is to assist the Director of Special Services in the development, implementation, and assessment of K-8 instructional programs. As a teacher of teachers, the Supervisor will motivate, assist and evaluate K-8 staff in the continuing effort to improve instructional opportunities and outcomes for special education students, as well as to promote effective professional development of department staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- New Jersey Supervisor Certificate and Teacher of Students with Special Needs Certificate.
- Previous experience as a School Psychologist, School Social Worker, LDTC, or Teacher of Special Education is required.
- Possesses three-five years teaching experience.
- Experience with curriculum development, program assessment and staff development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in the areas of program implementation.
- Familiarity with federal regulations and state code requirements.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Required criminal history background check.
- Proof of U.S.citizenship or legal resident alien status.

MINIMUM

- Possesses required Teacher of Students with Special Needs Certificate
- Possesses LDT-C, Social Worker or Psychologist Certificate, preferred
- Possesses three-five years teaching experience
- Demonstrates excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people;
- Possesses a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community;
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and
- Demonstrates the ability to use current technology for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
JOB GOAL(S) With the support of the Executive Director for Special Services, the Supervisor of Special Education - Instructional Leader will provide leadership for the optimal implementation and evaluation of special education programs and related services for eligible students. Leadership extends to the nurturing and development of teachers, BCBA, related services specialists, home-instructors, and non-certified staff as leaders and advocates for all students.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leads the implementation and evaluation of special education programs and services, including home instruction, related services, and out-of-district placements.
2. Creates Define expectations for the performance of member of the child study team, related services providers, home instructors, and clerical support in accordance with Board's policies and procedures on the evaluation of administrative personnel.
3. Collaborate with school administrators to evaluate the performance of teachers, and other specialists in accordance with Board policies and procedures on the evaluation of teachers.
4. Collaborates with Supervisors of Special Education to guarantee the effective and efficient data collection and IEP data management, preparation and submission of required state/federal funding applications and other reports, enrollment, placement, staffing, student attendance, new student placements, initial referrals, re-evaluation, de-classifications, early intervention cases, related services, transportation and home-instruction;
5. Leads the implementation of a professional development program that defines the role and responsibilities of child study team members, related services providers, special education teachers, para-professionals, and one-on-one para-professionals.
6. Collaborates with school administrators to collect and analyze formative and summative student achievement data, and identify appropriate actions as part of the district's goal to establish data-driven decisions at the student, grade, school, and district levels.
7. Participates in the budget development process to ensure that all special education programs and services are appropriately addressed and all funding streams are maximized; including textbooks, technology, equipment, specialized services, among others;
8. Collaborates with school administrators throughout the screening, interviewing, hiring and development of certified, as well as non-certified staff;
9. Collaborate with school administrators to implement the effective implementation
of technology integration into the curriculum and assessment practices
10. Collaborates with school administrators to ensure that ongoing, comprehensive,
and job-embedded professional development is offered to novice, experienced,
and teachers on teachers with a Corrective Action Plan as determined by the
summative evaluation
11. Keeps current on all legal requirements governing the implementation of special education programs and services based on state and federal regulations;
12. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special
Services.
