MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Holds a New York State Administrator & Supervisor certificate or equivalent.
  2. At least 5 years successful experience as an elementary classroom teacher or administrator preferred.
  3. Knowledge of current educational practices, research and applications.
  4. Knowledge of NYS Annual Professional Performance Review process and requirements.
  5. Demonstrated ability to:
    1. Provide leadership and work effectively with staff members, colleagues, parents and others in the educational community.
    2. Use creative problem solving and decision making skills to provide a positive learning environment resulting in continuous improvements for students and staff.
    3. Speak and write clearly and effectively.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board of Education find appropriate and acceptable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
School Administration
  • Assist in the coordination of daily functions of the school, including developing positive community relations, creating a supportive atmosphere for parents and a positive learning environment for children.
  • Serve as Building Principal in the absence of the regular Principal.
  • Assist in the supervision and evaluation of instructional and non-instructional personnel in the Elementary School.
  • Assist in carrying out disciplinary procedures as established by the District and/or building.
  • Provide leadership for the implementation of the school's Character Education and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports programs.
  • Utilize effective PBIS techniques while developing a positive school climate and ensuring students comply with the district's Code of Conduct.
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and behavior.
  • Collaborate with building principal and district administrators in budget preparation and determining staff needs.
  • Assist principal with developing student and teacher schedules that promote school objectives and minimize conflict.
  • Collaborate with maintenance/custodial staff to ensure that the school is safe, orderly and well maintained.
  • Serve on district and building level safety teams.
  • Work with families to improve student attendance and tardiness.
  • Assist in screening, interviewing and recommending candidates for professional and support staff positions.
  • Serve with parent, faculty, and community groups in advancing educational activities and objectives.
  • Coordinate K-5 Summer Success Program.
Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
  • Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the instructional program.
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing curriculum, methods of instruction and effective use of tests and measures.
  • Facilitate reflective instructional practices through dialogue with staff as part of the Professional Performance Review process.
  • Provide principal with feedback as to the effectiveness of newly adopted programs and make recommendations for modification in programs.
  • Participate in district and building level curriculum meetings and provide leadership in curriculum decisions.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff development initiatives.
  • Provide training to staff for staff development initiatives when appropriate.
  • Assist the principal in the preparation, administration and scoring of all New York State assessments.
  • Participate in Data Analysis and Planning Team meetings.
  • Provide leadership in Response to Intervention and the AIS program.
Communication
  • Participate in a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program.
  • Maintain communication with families through conferences, phone calls, newsletters and school website.
  • Build relationships with community members through attendance at school and district events.
  • Provide presentations to the Board of Education and PTSA.
  • Utilize local media to publicize school events and student accomplishments.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with local emergency personnel.
