The Farmington Public Schools are seeking a dynamic educational leader for the position of upper elementary school principal (Grades 5-6). The Principal shall provide leadership and administration for his/her school in accordance with policies and regulations prescribed by the Board and the Superintendent. The principal shall be responsible to the Superintendent for the administration, development and improvement of the educational program in his/her school. The teachers and all other personnel of the school shall be directly responsible to the Principal for the fulfillment of the duties assigned to them.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must possess or be eligible for State of Connecticut certification - Intermediate Administration (092).
  • Candidates must be prepared academically in the field of educational administration with coursework and/or experiences in teacher evaluation and supervision.
  • Candidates must have a demonstrated understanding and deep knowledge of school leadership issues and challenges.
  • Focused consideration will be given to references indicating exceptional teaching, administrative and leadership expertise; a collaborative orientation to problem solving; college and graduate school grades; various life/work experiences that contribute to overall qualifications; strong interpersonal communication skills; planning, organizing and budgeting skills.

SALARY:

$152,874 - $163,893 (depending upon experience and education)
A very competitive fringe benefit package will also be offered including a stipend of $2,000 for Ph.D./Ed.D. and $4,225 matching annuity.

DUTIES:

A. Instructional Leadership
  • Provides educational and instructional leadership in the school and district
  • Show evidence of leadership in formulating and developing the programs and projects which will improve the excellence of the school system, as well as in the areas of the Principal's particular responsibilities
  • Responsible for the educational procedures and programs within the school, and for all records and reports, in accordance with the policies, rules and regulations prescribed by the Board of Education
  • Initiates and coordinates improvements in curriculum in collaboration with the school faculty and Assistant Superintendent
  • B. Talent Management
  • Supervises and evaluates teachers and other school personnel, as required
  • Makes recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent of Schools for the recruitment, selection, and assignment of the instructional employees within his/her building
  • Responsible for assignments of teaching staff within the building, under existing terms and conditions of current Board of Education policies
  • Promotes the professional growth of assigned staff members
  • Observes classroom teaching and conferences teachers regarding it
  • Prepares written evaluations of certified staff members
  • Provides supervisory help to solve teaching problems and to improve instruction
  • C. Organizational Systems
  • Responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for all organization, administration and supervision within the building
  • Acts as the chief administrative officer for the school, and has necessary supervisory responsibilities related to students, professional and non-professional employees, visitors, and such other person hired to perform special tasks
  • Establishes rules and procedures for the administration of the school which shall be published in a faculty handbook
  • Responsible for the placement, promotion or retention of students within the building in accordance with Board policy
  • Develops an annual school-based budget reflecting establish school district goals for recommendation to the Superintendent
  • Develops an annual school development and improvement plan that addresses established and district goals and priorities
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schols

  • D. Climate and Culture
  • Safeguards the health and well-being of students and staff members
  • Implements strategies to collect stakeholder feedback regarding school effectiveness that will then be considered in school improvement planning
  • Maintains a school disciplinary climate which is positive, far and uniform where regulations are understood by parents, students and staff members, and where cooperation and mutual help are encouraged
  • Responsible for providing conditions which will protect the health and welfare of the children and the entire staff, including building emergency plans and procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining good public relations with the community and responsible for fully utilizing the community's resources for enriching school programs
