Please note that this position is based in Roxbury, MA with travel required to all three of our City on a Hill School locations.
 An I nstructional Content Specialist  at a City on a Hill School has the following responsibilities:  
Instructional Content Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that rigorous, standards-based teaching and learning in a specific content area (Math, Humanities, and Science) is consistent across the three high schools in the City on a Hill Network.  Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer and working in close collaboration with the school Principals, the Instructional Content Specialist will help develop and advance network and school-specific priorities within their focus content area through personalized coaching and ongoing professional support of content teachers.
A successful Instructional Content Specialist will be able to chart improved student performance outcomes with the curriculum and instructional coaching they are providing for content teachers, in addition to the regular tailored professional development tied to network and school-specific priorities.  
Specific responsibilities of an Instructional Content Specialist include:
  • Sets the content area specific Network-wide vision and initiatives, trains teachers on specific initiatives, and runs regular professional development and professional learning sessions for teachers on these initiatives.
  • Design and implement a content specific teacher coaching model that includes frequent class observations and regular supervision meetings that cover post conferencing, data meetings, and curriculum revision.
  • Collaborates with school Principals to formally evaluate all content teachers across the City on a Hill Network.
  • Makes recommendations on updates and changes to curriculum within specific content area, and creates/adopts vision documents (i.e. scope and sequence) to help guide teacher development.
  • Creates/adopts all Network-wide interim assessments and oral proficiencies, tracks and analyzes the data from these assessments, and facilitates data conferences and re-teaching plans with teachers in specified content area.
  • Runs regular data conferencing cycles for departments using internal student academic achievement data and external data (MCAS, ACT, and AP).
  • Creates/adopts protocols and norms for professional learning communities (PLCs) and ensures that PLCs are being implemented across the Network with fidelity.
  • Meets regularly with Principals to review student academic performance data and progress towards Network and school-specific priorities that relate to the academic program.
  • Support and participate in the hiring of new staff in the specified content area across the Network.
Required Qualifications
  • Belief that every student, regardless of background, can and must achieve academically at high levels
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of teaching experience in Sciences.
  • Initial Massachusetts licensure and SEI endorsement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of high student growth and achievement on external assessments
  • Commitment to City on a Hill's college prep mission and belief that all students can be successful when challenged with rigorous content
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work on a team
  • Experience serving as a teacher coach and/or teacher evaluator preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
  • Master's degree in Education
