ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the formation and continued development of the school's strategic plan.
  • Leads the process of curriculum development around the school's Arts Integration focus.
  • Makes recommendations for resources that support the focus program.
  • Conducts and/or facilitates professional development activities for staff and teaching artists around effective instructional strategies, curriculum implementation and assessment practices in an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Models effective instructional strategies, provides ongoing coaching and feedback to teachers.
  • Assists in planning and implementation of school unified improvement plan, including differentiated instruction and continual progress monitoring.
  • Assists with instructional planning and identification of resources to meet differentiated student needs.
  • Analyzes student data to identify resources to meet differentiated student needs.
  • Facilitates teacher learning teams to promote authentic collaboration across disciplines for improving teaching and learning.   • Provides support for improving instruction within special programs (English Language Learning, Special Education, Gifted and Talented Education).
  • Analyzes and interprets student assessment data to identify target area for instructional improvement.
  • Collaborates in the review and transformation of current practices on how instructional time is utilized and the development of consistent expectations for core-subject instruction.
  • Assists in the continual development and implementation of standards-based, written curriculum to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment.
  • Participates on building or zone committees related to school improvement, curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Researches and facilitates community partnership opportunities to provide specialized core instruction, professional learning, artist residencies, and enrichment opportunities for students and staff.
  • Seeks grant opportunities to support program focus.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with the arts specialists (visual art, music, movement, drama), as well as other curricular coaches and teaching artists to best meet the needs of classroom teachers related to Integrated Arts (IA)
  • Work with individual teachers and/or teams of teachers to develop, assess, and co-teach Integrated Arts Units - (curriculum retreats, in-service, planning meetings)
  • Help to identify standards based materials and other curriculum resources that support IA
  • Coordinate community connections and partnerships that support these IA units
  • Support teachers in documentation and curricular displays of IA student work, specifically with Essential Questions and Standards addressed
  • Promote the success of IA lessons within the school as well as the wider community


Professional Development:

Work with school staff and principal to plan, coordinate and contract with providers to deliver professional development, as well as personally deliver original and tailored professional development workshops on various relevant topics including arts integration strategies, alignment with common core, state and district learning targets and standards.

With IAA administration (school principal, magnet school coordinator, curriculum director) and partners the coach will also:

  • Identify professional development needs of the staff related to arts integration
  • Assist with facilitation of professional development for staff, including PLC's, study circles, IA courses, workshops, faculty meetings, etc.
  • Serve as a link between staff and evaluators, including PEER Associates and 5 th Element.
  • Use results of the teacher evaluations to drive yearly professional development activities for the year (see first bullet)
  • Identify and make connections with exemplar IA schools within the nation - facilitate school visits for IAA staff
  • Arrange and organize professional learning opportunities for the staff related to IA


School Arts Events and Projects:

Support budget development and collaborations with program partners. Develop messaging to media and educational community about particular events and celebrations. Help to develop key projects alongside teachers, parents and community partners.

Monitor, Coordinate, and Coach Implementation:

Coordinate, track, monitor, and regularly report on arts program implementation at IAA. Consult frequently and regularly with school leaders to discern best practices and advise on specifics related to arts integration. Schedule regular school site visits to check in on progress. Develop tools to support instruction in and through the arts. Coach arts specialists, teachers and other staff in program development, arts integration strategies and curricular leadership, and facilitate collaboration between specialists in the local network. Model arts integration practices for staff. Keep schools up-to-date on best practices. Self-motivated team player, excited to play a critical role in a and contribute to meaningful, mission driven work. Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and accuracy. Ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, take appropriate initiative, and work independently. Desire and ability to create and coach the development of culturally relevant pedagogy. Comfortable with multitasking and coordinating ongoing programs related to arts experiences and arts integration. Ability to professionally format letters, agendas, complex schedules, and other documents. Ability to build relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders; strong connections to local arts communities preferred. Ability to represent Turnaround Arts in a professional manner.

Outreach

The Coach will:
  • Be a spokesperson for our mission of learning through the arts
  • Create strong connections with the local arts community, as well as arts resources, linking the school with opportunities for growth while showcasing its uniqueness
  • Host visitors, including parents, educators, and community members
  • Assist with school wide projects, town meeting, Monday morning meeting, and other projects which promote student success
  • Collaborate with Young Tradition Vermont, LCCMF, St. Michael's College, The Flynn, Burlington City Arts, The Fleming Museum, Champlain College, Very Merry Theater, The University of Vermont and others
  • Help to promote positive publicity of the Integrated Arts Academy (press release, television, networking, etc.) and establish positive relationships with the media
  • Identify grant and funding opportunities which help to enrich and support our mission
  • Arrange and lead field trips, artist residencies, after school art opportunities
  • Solicit and seek out donations which help to further the success of the school's mission


PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS :

Oversees quality and consistent application of professional development, strategic planning, and coaching for teachers and staff at IAA. Oversee and guide the formation of Arts Leadership at IAA. Coach and advise staff and principal on best practices related to professional development, arts programming, and arts integration. Support development and revisiting of school level strategic arts plans at each stage of development. Help to coordinate schedules for teaching artists and residencies and support transfer of teaching artist techniques to school staff.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of four years of experience teaching in a school setting; public school experience preferred. Demonstrated effective school leadership or instructional coaching experience. Curriculum development experience (Candidates under serious consideration will be asked to provide work samples.). Background in arts education and arts integration and research on arts education, shared leadership models, peer support network structures, and effective meeting facilitation. Document strong practices and share within local cohort and with Turnaround Arts: National. Compose letters, emails, and presentations with clear writing and proper grammar. Maintain highly organized digital and paper filing systems. Assume other responsibilities as requested.
