The Senior Project Manager - Planning leads Facilities Planning efforts for new initiatives, current projects, data management, and provides planning support to schools and other district offices as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the development of and adherence to educational specifications for all major projects performed for the District. Reviews design documents for compliance with the educational specifications applicable and policies, procedures, and standards as set for the by the Baltimore City School Board.
  • Develops standards/processes and maintains data housed within facilities planning.
  • Manages the writing of complex reports, memos and other correspondence.
  • Works closely with the Planning Director to prepare, maintain, and evaluate office compliance, procedures and processes. Provides advice and guidance to management and staff regarding planning, design and capital improvement matters.
  • Represents the Planning Director and the office on various internal and external planning related committees (e.g. School Surplus Taskforce meetings).
  • Assists other planners to improve production and quality of product.
  • Works with city, state and federal agencies, including the Interagency Committee on Public School Construction and the Department of General Services.
  • Collaborates with consulting planners, engineers, architects, and others to investigate and resolve planning matters.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board's policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor?s degree in architecture, urban/regional planning, or a related field and eight years? experience in both architecture and planning. Degree(s) must be from an accredited college or institution. Additional education may count towards practical experience.
  • Project management for multiple and concurrent projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational facilities architecture, and good planning practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize ongoing and multiple projects to address multiple tasks, technical issues, and address contingencies on simultaneous projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, City Schools' personnel and partner stakeholders at all levels.
  • Thorough knowledge of Baltimore City and Baltimore City Public Schools
  • Advanced skill in the use of Technology and relevant design and office applications. Strong GIS skills are desirable along with a willingness to learn new technologies and applications as they become available
  • Good interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in public K-12 education is preferred.
