Position at IDEA Public Schools
Role Mission: The Director of Construction is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of major construction projects for IDEA Public Schools, which encompasses activities that range from site selections, conceptual design development, works closely with consultants to determine conceptual designs, cost and timing required to develop sites, deliver complex projects on-time and within budget, projects strictly follow the required compliance guidelines, and projects meet the standards and program model developed by IDEA.
Accountabilities
100% of programmed schools in operation with teacher and student Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) two weeks before the first day of school.
100% of programmed portables and Master Planned and CapEx projects in operation with teacher and student TCO two weeks prior to first day of school.
95% of warranty items documented and resolved within 60 days at year 1 projects.
100% of punchlists created and resolved for every new school within 90 days after the first day of school.

Accountabilities
- Manage coordination with Project Management Services Inc. (PMSI) to ensure project schedules
- Attend and steer weekly PMSI, IDEA conference call and on-site meetings; ensure there are clear updates and next steps for all projects and follow up on any internal issues as well as paths forward for external delays
- For projects managed by IDEA Public Schools, engage directly with contractor providing feedback on progress, coordinate with campus on schedules and availability for access to facilities
- Work with local government entities on permit, inspection, and occupancy processes; engaging other internal stakeholders, as needed.
- Execute, in partnership with Facility Asset Manager and Managing Director of Facility and Construction, the internal CapEx process and clearly articulate process and protocol to internal stakeholders
- Coordinate with design team to develop and execute contracts
- Engage with Regional Directors of Operations on project status, supports needed, and to identify alternative plans, as appropriate, to ensure limited interruptions to student or staff experience
- Work with local government entities on permit, inspection, and occupancy processes; engaging other internal stakeholders, as needed.
- Maintain system for tracking all warranty items and evaluating the functionality and performance of items
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors, as appropriate, should functionality become an issue
- Work with and support training of Facility Managers to ensure that warranty tickets are entered into internal management system
- Manage coordination between sites and contractors to address any warranty issues, without disruption to staff or students
- Collaborate with design team to create standardized punchlist and update for unique projects
- Ensure contractor completes punchlist for 100% of projects

- Ability to read blueprints, structural drawings, and plans
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, processes, and equipment
- Can follow verbal and written instructions/guidance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in construction science or related field
- Experience: 5-7 years professional experience, construction management preferred
Compensation:
- Salaries for this role typically fall between $65,400 and $83,400, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
