POSITION SUMMARY:

The teacher will be responsible for planning and providing instruction for students within the Construction Trades Electrical program using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students including appropriate hands-on learning activities and meaningful instruction. The teacher will monitor and evaluate student performance, develop and implement plans to improve student performance, maintain required records and follow required PGCPS procedures and practices. In addition, this position will develop student competencies that will enable students to successfully enter a postsecondary school, training program or entrance to the job market. The teacher will also be responsible for preparing students to successfully take and pass the NCCER certification exams at the completion of the program.

Salary Range: $47,781 - $103,819

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan;
  • Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials;
  • Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development;
  • Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results;
  • Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present subject matter to students;
  • Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques;
  • Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives;
  • Counsels students when academic and adjustment problems arise;
  • Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Regulation;
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;
  • Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods;
  • Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections;
  • Collaborates with Career Academy Team to implement the goals and objectives of the Academy of Architecture & Design; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, principles, codes and practices;
  • Working knowledge of the various types of standards and procedures used in the design, construction and installation of electrical fixtures and receptacles;
  • Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of specialization;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process;
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;
  • Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree or higher in a state-approved career and technical program or in the career area to be taught from an accredited college/universities; or Associated degree in the career area to be taught or a Bachelor's degree and official verification of two (2) years of satisfactory occupational experience in the career area to be taught; or Secondary School Diploma or equivalent and official verification of three (3) years of satisfactory occupational experience;

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education. Journeyman Electrical License and/or Master Electrician preferred; NCCER Instructor Certification preferred.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervision of classroom paraprofessional(s) and dedicated or classroom assistants, if applicable.
