This school in the Falkland Islands is looking for a qualified Whole School Special Educational Needs Coordinator. They could consider someone for a short term contract as well whilst they continue searching for a full time teacher for the role. The SENCo is responsible for directing and supporting provision and intervention strategies within the 3 - 16 age range. The Education Department includes a mainstream primary (300) and secondary (170) school, both of which house specialist resource classrooms; 4 very small satellite schools and a number of home-based settings where students (25) who live in rural locations carry out their learning. The students on the Record of Need have a range of needs in the four broad categories of cognition and learning; communication and interaction; sensory and/or physical needs; social and emotional and mental health needs.

Candidates should have a degree and teaching qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (recognised in the UK) plus at least 3 years teaching experience and 3 years experience as a SENCO at whole school level. They should also have a National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within 2 years of appointment, evidence of attendance at, and capturing impact from, recent & relevant CPD/INSET and knowledge o Safeguarding / Child Protection qualification. Sound knowledge of one key stage in the 3-16 age range and an overview of the others and Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice is also essential.

The archipelago consists of two main islands: West Falkland and East Falkland, and about 776 small and very small islands, mostly uninhabited.
