JOB TITLE: Facilities Information Systems Technician

REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Facilities Information Systems

GRADE: 10 (Full time; 12 months)

SALARY: $23.59 to $38.99 per hour, per the ESPBC (Education Support Professionals of Baltimore County) payscale, effective July 1, 2019.

DEFINITION : Provides technical support in the development, implementation, testing, maintenance, and enhancement of facilities information systems and associated software and equipment. Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves system malfunctions. Develops and modifies system reports, processes, and modules. Trains and supports system users. Maintains the department web page. Participates in various departmental automation initiatives.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :

Maintains and operates facilities information systems including computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), project management system and other process control systems. Updates and maintains system web pages and modules. Maintains records of service requests and work order histories.

Troubleshoots system hardware and software malfunctions. Administers the back-up, retrieval, and storage of system data.

Administers facilities information system security and ensures controls with user access.

Administers department web page and automated display sign updates and ensures web accessibility compliance within guidelines established by the Department of Information Technology.

Provides technical support, guidance, and training to departmental users. Develops and documents system procedures and protocols. Develops system manuals and training materials, and/or trains users in the proper use of hardware and software applications.

Analyzes user and departmental needs and requests. Develops and modifies reports and programs in response. Gathers business and functional requirements from stakeholders and recommends system enhancements.

Provides database administration to include the design, development, and maintenance of various database applications within the department. Evaluates software use and recommends improvements or upgrades.

Conducts office automation feasibility studies, including workflow analysis, space design, and cost comparison analysis. Coordinates device replacement and manages IT implementation projects.

Assists with defining standards and goals for related projects. Conducts technical research and writes reports on findings for management and customers.

Participates in and coordinates the day-to-day operation and monitoring of centralized, automated security and fire alarm systems. Maintains hardware and software associated with central monitoring systems. Troubleshoots system malfunctions. Receives and processes data from fire and security alarms.

Serves as a liaison to the Department of Information Technology, vendors, and other agencies regarding facilities information systems and related automation matters.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience :
Possession of an Associate's degree or equivalent college credits in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Five years of experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting computers, and related hardware, information systems, and software applications.

Experience with MicroMain or other computerized maintenance management systems, project management systems, or automated security/access control systems is preferred.

Note : Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of computer operations and support. Knowledge of operating systems, software applications, hardware equipment, and cabling components. Knowledge of computer networks. Knowledge of automated management systems.

Skill in maintaining automated management systems. Skill in installing, configuring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting personal computers and related equipment. Skill in installing, configuring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting software applications, computer hardware, and cabling components. Skill in providing technical assistance, guidance, and training to system users. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in effectively prioritizing assignments and tasks.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited lifting and physical activities.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $81.00. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to hire.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
