Position Title: ANTICIPATED VACANCY for HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (Probationary)

Initial Assignment: KENMORE WEST HIGH SCHOOL

Qualifications:
        • Hold a valid New York State School Administrator / Supervisor Certificate.
        • Minimum of 10 years successful teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.
        • Evidence of strong instructional leadership that results in a positive and engaging environment for staff and students geared toward sustained student achievement.

Performance Responsibilities:

        • Provides support and assistance to the school principal as an instructional leader to plan, implement, direct and evaluate the school programs and activities
        • Assists the principal with the administration and implementation of the school and district initiatives
        • Provide leadership in initiating, evaluation and revising school operating practices to achieve and maintain an efficient school
        • Perform as a visible and effective leader in both long range planning and day-to-day operations of the high school, including school-wide and individual student management programs
        • Assist the principal with advocating for and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth
        • Assist the principal with the evaluation and approval or recommendations for modifications to new or existing programs
        • Resolve conflicts or grievances and settle disputes between students, teachers, parents or combinations thereof
        • Assist in screening, interviewing and recommending candidates for positions within the school and District
        • Communicates clearly and effectively with students, parents, staff, administration and community members
        • Clearly articulate the goals and philosophy of the school and District
        • Assist in the interpretation and administration of school policy, regulations and negotiated contracts
        • Assist in yearly teacher evaluation and provide guidance to and manage staff
        • Assist with student discipline as well as student activities
        • Responsible for principal's duties in the absence of the principal
        • Performs tasks as assigned by the building principal

Contract: 12 months

Salary: According to the KAA Agreement with the KTUFSD

Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Assists the principal in the daily operation of the school building.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The work involves responsibility for the independent performance of varied administrative duties requiring a high degree of decision making and confidentiality. Assist the principal in administering new curriculum, gather information and prepare school system presentations, prepare correspondence and meets with parents to resolve issues in a timely manner. Responsible to the Principal of school to assist in the effective operation of the building and educational programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold a valid and appropriate New York State administrative certificate

  1. 10 years teaching/and or administrative experience preferred

  1. Experience in curriculum development with knowledge of current trends including role of technology in education

  1. Demonstrated experience functioning as an instructional leader with teachers, administrators and community

  1. Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, community members, staff and administrators

  1. Must be flexible, detail-oriented and able to prioritize and deal with ambiguity, and work well under pressure

  1. Able to multi-task and work effectively as a team member

  1. Experience and knowledge working with students with special needs. Familiar with state regulations regarding students classified by the district CSE committee

  1. Other qualifications as designated by the Kenmore-Tonawanda UFSD Board of Education

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Works directly under the principal to ensure the smooth overall operation of the school
  2. Assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership that results in a positive and engaging environment geared toward sustained student achievement
  3. Assists the Principal in administering the District and building initiatives
  4. Supports committees of staff and parents that function to improve the learning and social environment of the school for the students
  5. Organizes and directs committees of volunteers, specialists and staff to provide either advisory or technical assistance for programs
  6. Develops rapport with the students, handles discipline issues and fills in for the principal when required
  7. Resolves conflicts or grievances and settles disputes between students, teachers, parents or combinations of conflicts between various individuals
  8. Makes decisions and solves problems by analyzing information and selecting the best solution, along with developing cooperative and constructive relationships
  9. Administers and coordinates school discipline and instructional, student support, organizational or other program implementation and maintains the necessary discipline, attendance, meeting and/or necessary records.
  10. Assists in yearly teacher evaluations, assisting in providing guidance to staff, and manages the teachers, counselors, staff and students on a daily basis
  11. Encourages a positive climate in the school
  12. Directs assemblies and other special gatherings of students and events
  13. Coordinates or directs the use of the high school facilities
  14. Develops emergency response plans as required by state and federal education agencies, filing reports and updating as required
  15. Reviews and approves or recommends modifications to new or existing programs and then submits their proposals to the principal
  16. Prepares or oversees the maintenance of attendance records, personnel reports, planning and other activities
  17. Provides counsel and guidance to students regarding academic, personal, behavioral or vocational issues
  18. Enforces attendance and discipline rules
  19. Develops partnerships with communities or organizations to help meet educational needs
  20. Assists with the development or evaluation of schedules and programs to meet the needs of students
  21. Assists in determining and implementing school organization, student placement and evaluation, and services and programs that provide for the needs of children
  22. Engages in professional activities that contribute to leadership development
  23. Assumes responsibilities for maintaining attendance procedures
  24. Coordinates and supervises student activities.
  25. Writes reports relative to program or organization recommendations, conferences, suspensions, court reports, etc.
  26. Assists the principal with the responsibility for the business management functions of the local school finances
  27. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the principal
