    Job Description - Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)

    GENERAL STATEMENT:
    To work with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to address significant student behavioral issues, help to implement more complex learning plans, activities of daily living, and support social skills development, either in the educational setting or in the home.
    Behavior Technicians are responsible for monitoring Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) based instructional plans under the supervision of the BCBA and the teacher plans as directed by the BCBA for a caseload of students identified by the BCBA.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
    Regular BCBA supervision supplemented by Certified Staff Professional(s) and appropriate administrators.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
    • Implements student behavior intervention plans (BIP), educational plans, and activities of daily living under the supervision of the BCBA, to assist students with utilizing appropriate social skills and decreasing maladaptive behaviors, social skill development and/or managing maladaptive behaviors
    • Observes and collects data on student performance as directed by the BCBA
    • Records quality behavioral data to monitor individual's progress and reports any progress or regression in attaining objectives of educational plans to the BCBA
    • Communicates information regarding student progress or regression between the classroom teacher, special education teacher, and BCBA
    • Utilizes ReThink software to analyze student progress under supervision of BCBA
    • Alerts the teacher or BCBA regarding any problem or special information related to an individual student
    • Participates in professional development training programs, as required
    • Assist the teacher in the handling, operation, and care of equipment used in the classroom, including media and instructional materials, assistive technology, augmentative communication devices.
    • Assist with daily living needs, such as feeding and bathroom accommodations according to students' educational plans.
    • Exhibits a clear understanding of the IEP information as it pertains to their role as an implementer.
    • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and sensitivity of information about students as is expected by a certified teacher and the BCBA.
    • Supports activities of daily living, sensory diets, and OT/PT programs.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and students
    • Commitment to working with students using a goal-oriented mindset
    • Experience working with students with special needs, Autism, and/or behavior needs
    • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions effectively.
    • Exhibits proficiency in basic reading, math, writing, and speaking English.
    • Must exhibit good judgment, patience, tact, and courtesy.
    • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and sensitivity of information about students, including confidential communication about students.
    • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of, at a minimum, the essential functions of the position.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Pass the ParaPro Assessment, hold an Associate's Degree, or have completed at least 60 credits at an approved college.
    • Must hold a current Registered Behavior Technician Certificate
    • Must meet NCLB compliance requirements, as applicable.
    • Comfort with use of standard computer applications
    • Such additions and alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable.

    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
