The Sustainability Academy is seeking a Behavior Interventionist to provide intensive, individualized support to students Grades K - 5 with emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges. This position targets the teaching and shaping of essential communication, social adaptive behavior, daily living and functional learning skills. Multiple treatment methodologies under the Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) are required.

Required Qualifications:

-Post Secondary credits required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

-Training in Specialized Behavior Management and Restraint (SUPPORT) required.

-A minimum of two (2) years experience working with appropriate aged students.

-Proficient in computer applications- word processing; spreadsheets; e-mail; internet.

-Familiar with laws and regulations governing education in Vermont, specifically Special

Education Laws.

-Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties:

-Ability to communicate efficiently and knowledgeably with LEA.

-Ability to use and understand Special Education terminology.

-Provide proscribed time delay (3-5 seconds) for student to respond.

-Use shaping, chaining, prompting, and other evidence based strategies during sessions

and throughout the program day.

-Ability to implement antecedent control strategies to prevent the expression of challenging

behaviors.

-Provide consequences immediately, consistently, contingently, and appropriately according to the support model.

-Ability to appropriately engage students in activities per daily schedule.

-Ability to appropriately engage students and densely reinforce (as defined in the individual

student's Behavior Support Plan) for engaging in behavior targeted for increase.

-Ability to ensure that body position is appropriate to the situation; use preventative

positioning and ecological management techniques to prevent challenging behavior and

elicit pro-social behavior.

-Ability to facilitate student in the use of appropriate communication skills (including

augmentation systems of using full sentences and adult language and intonation when

appropriate) and establishing eye contact and attending behavior prior to communicating

with student.

- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of stimulus control procedures and can implement

generic programs such as compliance training, correspondence training, prompting,

correcting, task analysis, discrete and incidental instruction, and the like.

- Ability to record data accurately per target behavior and /or IEP objective and establish &

maintain a minimum of 85% inter-observer agreement with a minimum of one other staff

member.

- Work collaboratively with other Behavior Interventionist(s) implementing the program.

- Ability to appropriately apply the principles of SUPPORT training.

- Ability to use physical restraints designed for program (sometimes on a daily basis).

- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student

deportment, and develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and procedures.

- Maintain a safe learning enviroment and take all necessary and reasonable precautions

to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

- Attend scheduled meetings.

- Participate in scheduled in-service days.

- Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-

community relations and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

- Comply with School Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures as well

as reinforcing students to do the same.

- Prepare/Complete appropriate reports/paperwork.

- Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.

- Perform other task and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.
