Additional Information: High School Success Deans work with school leadership, teachers, students,
families, and community partners. Major responsibilities of the Success Dean
include developing, implementing, and monitoring student support services,
reviewing data to identify students in danger of falling off track (with a focus
on 9th grade), supervising AmeriCorps case managers, and planning transition
programs. Additionally, Success Deans participate in a district-wide network to
learn and share best practices.

SUMMARY:
The position of Academic and Student Success Coach will support students in excelling both academically and socially. This person works as a liaison between the classroom teacher and the student keeping students on track, checking on progress and solving student challenges. They work collaboratively with school and district staff, students and their families to implement and manage intervention strategies promoting student academic and/or social/emotional skills. The Academic and Student Success Coach will at times interact one-on-one or in small groups to understand and support students. In addition, the Academic and Student Success Coach may support the administrative team by heading up the school's PBIS three tiered systems, coordinate/support teachers with social skills curriculum and reach out to family and community partners to build student culture.

CONTEXT AND MISSION:
Highline Public Schools serves approximately 19,000 students in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and White Center in Washington State. In 2013, parents, students, community members, and staff at all levels of the district came together to develop a strategic plan that reflects our goals and dreams for our students. The plan was updated in 2018 to guide our work through 2023. The plan's promise is that every student in Highline Public Schools is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose. The strategic plan is centered on Our Promise. It includes five big goals for Highline students, supported by Our Foundation. * Equity. We will disrupt institutional biases and end inequitable practices so all students have an equal chance at success. * Instruction. We will reduce achievement and opportunity gaps by using culturally responsive, inclusive, standards-based instruction. * Relationships. We will know our students by name, strength and need and have open, two-way communication with students, families and community partners. * Support. We will increase student success by supporting their social-emotional and academic needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Work closely with school principal and staff to ensure programming aligned to Highline Public Schools strategic plan goals as it applies to student academic and social/emotional success. * Work with school principal and others who will rigorously focus on student needs, including using on-track and academic data to target additional supports. * Ensure a school-based system of proactive and immediate programmatic responses to student needs is in place, including extra learning opportunities for students who struggle academically, and social/emotional supports and programs. * Collect, maintain, and review student data to assess needs and determine appropriate interventions. * Work with individual students, families, and staff to ensure academic success for all students. * Communicate with student's families regarding student progress, behavior and available services to include documentation of service. * Implement/ support an effective attendance program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current WA State Teaching Certificate OR WA State ESA School Counselor OR WA State ESA Psychologist Certificate Two years working directly with children/youth in schools and/or equivalent settings



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
:
Three years teaching, counseling, and/or psychologist grade-level appropriate experience Bilingual
