POSITION TITLE: Outreach for Parenting Teens Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.

  • Masters Degree in social work, psychology or related field plus work experience relevant to this position.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English.

  • Effective clinical skills with the ability to assess students' needs and connect them with appropriate services.

  • Good working knowledge of school based and social services available to parenting teens in Arlington County.

  • The ability to create a collegial, courteous relationship with other schools, agencies, school administrators, and other professionals that supports the success of the students.

  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with students and their family members while overseeing the adequate provision of services to insure their enrollment in Arlington Public Schools.

  • Ability to motivate adolescent mothers to continue their education and learn parenting skills.

  • Communicate effectively both written and orally.

  • Ability to work well with the team and collaboratively with the Career Center Staff.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is a 1.0 FTE, grade E-10 located at the Career Center. This position carries the responsibility for the administrative coordination of the Outreach for Parenting Teens Program. The coordinator provides direct services to pregnant and parenting teens and their families and is responsible for the daily operation of the office. Included in the responsibility is the outreach to the community to identify students who would benefit from the program and to coordinate community and school services so that they experience success and are supported as the work to earn their high school diploma. The coordinator acts as a liaison with many community and government agencies on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for planning and implementation of both the clinical and administrative functions of the Outreach for Parenting Teens program.

  • Provide direct service to pregnant and parenting teens and their families and coordinate services for the multiple needs of our students.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the office including coordinating transportation for students to school and to appointments.

  • Facilitate the enrollment of students in the appropriate school. Work with Arlington Department of Human Services (DHS) to facilitate the enrollment of babies in the Career Center Infant Care Center.

  • Provide monitoring of grant monies and ensure compliance with grant requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with the Infant Care Center Teacher/Director .Work with other staff to monitor student attendance and progress. Work with staff to identify clinical needs and provide support and/or crisis intervention as needed.

  • Oversee the collection and analysis of data and generation of monthly and annual reports. Oversee the treatment plans and appropriate referrals or reports to authorities.

  • Monitoring of students and the several locations throughout APS.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience at working with pregnant or parenting teens in a school setting.

  • Experience in working with culturally diverse pregnant and parenting teens.

SALARY:
Salary ranges from $72,245 to $108,811 (Based on the FY2019-20 salary schedule)
