Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, Upcoming School Year ( 2019 - 2020 ) Part Time, Oakland, CA

Futures Education is seeking an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher / APE to provide services to students with severe special needs in the Oakland, CA area. This position is part-time for approximately an hour a week and available to start as soon as possible.

Assessments, Curriculum & Data Collection
  • Complete formal and informal motor assessments of each student
  • Develop each student's physical education curriculum in conjunction with the classroom teaching clinical team
  • Write IEP goals, objectives and updates in accordance with official mandates
  • Collect daily/weekly data on student progress
  • Implement behavior management strategies and tactics in accordance with each child's behavior management plan and school policy
  • Maintain neat and accurate records, equipment and gym space
  • Promote generalization of individually learned skills both in and out of the school environment

The Adapted Physical Education Teacher is responsible for student evaluations and recommendations, provide physical education activities for all students, provide individual/group instruction, perform classroom observations during PT/OT sessions, consult, participate in I.E.P.'s, write reports and other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • 1-2 years of hands-on PE experience highly preferred
  • California State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher
  • B.A. or MA Degree in Adapted Physical Education/Physical Education required
  • Experience in ABA preferred, but not required
  • Able to teach diverse students with varied interests and different physical abilities
