The Director of School Operations will work closely with the Chief of Schools to provide strategic guidance and support to all schools regarding effective and efficient daily operations the Director will serve in a multi-faceted, operational capacity designed to establish conditions for learning that promote the growth and development of all students and staff through district office and school-based collaboration structures, communication, professional development and implementation of district policies and guidelines.

Essential Functions
  • Aligned with the vision of the Chief Executive Officer, under the direction of the Chief of Schools and in collaboration with the Academic Offices supports the implementation of the strategic direction for Whole Child Services and Support .
  • Ensures the effective and efficient development of student support goals and objectives for Community Learning Networks (CLNs) in alignment with and in support of the differentiated learning needs of students
  • Oversees the performance of schools in all areas of responsibility against established goals and objectives and advises the Chief of Schools on areas of improvement.
  • Provides support and guidance to leadership teams regarding daily school-based functions.
  • Provides leadership and facilitation in the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral interventions and supports that address student needs.
  • Oversees the collaboration between school-based and district teams to develop and implement school safety and attendance plans.
  • Supports the collaboration between School Support Teams and district office to ensure that support and resolution for student incidents, concerns and climate/building related issues.
  • Provides coaching, technical assistance and professional development to schools and School Support Liaisons to resolve transportation issues in collaboration with City Schools Transportation Office.
  • Ensures that current initiatives to support improved academics and attendance are central to the work of School Support Teams through partnership with the Chief Academic Office.
  • Collaborates with Academic Offices and school-based administrative teams and School Support Teams to improve delivery of instruction and climate programs.
  • Develops and manages collaborative communications and working relationships with schools and City Schools central office departments. Facilitates and provides professional development in the preparation and planning of school?s annual budget in coordination with the Office of Finance.
  • Provides leadership on behalf of the Chief of Schools in the development of strategic plans, master planning for MSDE, local, state, and federal grant applications, and in the development of office and district-level budget documents.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination polices; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.


Maximum Salary 126000.00
Minimum Salary 94500.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Master?s degree in education, business, public administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) with Administrator I required (Administrator II preferred).
  • Five years related administrative/supervisory/leadership experience in public education or university setting.
  • Valid Class C Noncommercial driver's license and personal transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex problem solving with use of available resources and identifying creative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategies that impact positive student achievement and productive school culture.
  • Proficient in project management, strategic planning, organizational and operational skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation and guidelines governing the education and discipline of students.
  • Interpersonal skills that ensure effective support of principals.
  • Excellent verbal and communications, advocacy, and presentation skills.
  • Experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with City Schools? central office departments and to provide high-level district information of all schools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school level data analysis regarding climate, academic, attendance/truancy trends and other areas that impact student achievement.
  • Proficient use of technical computer applications, including Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
