JOB DESCRIPTION:

The High School Mathematics Specialist will be the lead instructor for a group of identified students who need specialized instruction in Algebra 1. The classes will be no larger than 15 students. The Mathematics Specialist will be asked to keep detailed records of each student with progress toward meeting the Algebra 1 standards. The Mathematics Specialist will conference with students regularly to discuss their individual progress.

REPORTS TO: Public Service Leadership Academy (PSLA) Principal

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Mathematics Specialist will:

  • Utilize effective practices to build both conceptual understanding and procedural skills in Algebra 1.
  • Communicates with students regularly on progress toward Algebra 1 standards.
  • Collaborate with district coaches with plans for meeting the needs of all students.
  • Uses data to track student progress toward Algebra 1 standards.
  • Collection, analyze, and interpret data to drive instructional planning.

  • Sets challenging goals and plans ahead in order to reach goals and avoid problems.

  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in education or a related subject.
  • Knowledge of subject matter being taught.
  • At least three years of prior teaching experience with demonstrated evidence of high- student outcomes in mathematics.
  • Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning.
  • Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred).
  • Experience adapting to and meeting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of all children.
  • All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in Mathematics, or qualify to obtain it by the first date of employment. This requires at least a Bachelor's degree. Licensed teachers from other states may qualify for reciprocity .
  • Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

  • The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $48,500. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
  • Teachers who are assigned to work at schools with extended learning time will receive an additional stipend.
  • Teachers will have opportunities to teach in our Summer School Programs, receiving an hourly rate per the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
