Position Summary

The Culture Coordinator is responsible for management of two cohorts culture, analyzing data to determine interventions around behavior, using strong relationship development skills to partner with students, staff, and parents to ensure strong youth development. As a member of the School Culture team, the Culture Coordinator has a vested and urgent role to support scholars’ success in the classroom by developing strong culture systems in concert with restorative practices. The Culture team operates from the vantage that all stakeholders have positive assets and that their role is to develop stronger ties between student, school, and parents through effective scholar leadership development. The role of the Culture Coordinator develops strong relationships with every scholar in their cohorts and works with a larger team of adults to ensure that every child develops and reaches their maximum capacity.
Key responsibilities include:

School Culture
  • Implement, develop, and reinforce Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) and use data to determine next steps for all stakeholders. The ideal candidate is able to look at trends in behavior and translate these trends into actionable next steps that reinforce expectations and focus on youth developing skills.
  • The Culture Coordinator will use restorative practices at the center of their approaches. Seeking out students with conflict and using a set of tools (restorative circles, restorative conversations, mediations, etc.) to develop scholars’ ability to grow and resolve conflict in more Productive ways.
  • Use behavioral data to determine the root causes for particular behaviors and coach scholars and teachers to adjust practices in order to develop stronger culture in classrooms, common spaces, and, more broadly, the school.
  • Assist in implementing programs that recognize and reward students; support school-wide procedures and protocols in response to academic and behavioral needs of students, and support teachers and administration in the administration in their enforcement of school-wide policies on a consistent basis
  • Work on a team with leadership, and school counseling/social worker personnel.

Communication and Reporting
  • Learn and work with school specific adopted administrative technology (Google Suite, email, google sheets, google forms, etc.)
  • Create and proofread professional
  • Participate in weekly Culture Team Meetings to analyze trends in student incidents
  • Support the school-wide use of tools such as the culture tracker for reporting and documenting infraction data and other information, in order to ensure that proper records are kept and timely data are generated for staff review
  • Assist in meetings with students' parents/guardians, and ensures that responses to infractions are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school
  • Identify patterns of misbehavior and coordinate appropriate measures as needed with School Counselors and Social Workers
  • Review and report trends on culture and uniform trackers during Dean Team Meetings
  • Conduct weekly Dean Meetings in absence of Associate Director of School Culture
  • Respond to student behavioral issues

Safety Operations
  • Escalate and De-escalate issues that affect overall culture and climate of the school. Examples include, but are not limited to: situations affecting the safety of the campus, assessing students’ social emotional state for referral to social workers or crisis intervention, et al.
  • Assist in supervising student entry/dismissal, locker rooms, transitions, lunchroom and hallway duty as needed under the direction of school leadership and/or other appropriate staff members
  • Collaboratively ensure school wide adherence to PBIS routines. Examples include but are not limited to uniform policy, timeliness, code of conduct, etc.
  • Ensure that staff and scholars arrive safely into the school building.

*Due to the changing nature of schools and school reform, other duties may be assigned by supervisor or leadership at any time.

Qualifications
  • BA or BS Degree from an accredited college in psychology, social work, education, or related field
  • At least 3 years experience in a similar position
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Google docs and Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word, Excel and Access

Experience
  • Demonstrated success working with students and families
  • At least 2 years experience working in a school environment preferred
