Director of Special Services

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Provide leadership in the creation of shared beliefs and values around student learning and supports to address varied learning needs
  • Serve as the instructional leader to educators in data driven decision making, the building of inclusionary practices and full continuum of services, as well as transition planning for all students
  • Work collaboratively with administrative and instructional colleagues to develop and maintain high impact evidence-based practices, programs, services and systems
  • Support and evaluate school principals as part of a continuous improvement cycle
  • Represent SWBOCES in the region as the leader in the field, serving as a resource to component and participating districts
  • Develop, implement and monitor the budget for the Center for Special Services
  • Provide a system which ensures compliance with all Federal and New York State Special Education laws and regulations
  • Ensure the implementation of all students' Individual Education Plans
  • Monitor student enrollment and the student intake process
  • Develop and administer systems to monitor student attendance, academic progress, evaluate program effectiveness and develop improvement strategies
  • Effectively communicate, written and verbally, with all constituent groups including parents and component school districts regarding program issues and proposed changes
  • Respond to student, parent, staff and component district questions or concerns
  • Lead the Center in determining appropriate staffing levels for administrative, teaching, and classified staff, and the hiring process at the Center level
  • Foster and facilitate a collaborative working relationship with community agencies services, component/participating districts, other BOCES and state agencies to enhance programs and services
  • Administer the Extended School Year program
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • New York State District-Level administrative certification; Master's Degree; Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; Administrative experience in Special Education; Knowledge and experience with Part 200 Regulations and the Committee on Special Education (CSE) process.
Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000
