Data Analyst

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.

Within the Office of Access and Enrollment, the Data Analyst will directly work with Data Systems Manager and will be responsible for managing the collection and evaluation of data to ensure that GoCPS application process provides seamless, transparent data for both families and school administrators and gives access to high quality education to all students served. The Data Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

• Evaluate complex data sets for structural integrity and consistency, using Filemaker, SAS, SQL, and Excel.
  
  
• Identify trends and anomalies in the data collected to understand and resolve sources of data inaccuracies.
  
  
• Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting on operational metrics with minimal oversight.
  
  
• Collaborate with business and subject matter experts to identify and resolve additional data needs.
  
  
• Conduct complex data analysis using both application database and CPS data warehouse.
  
  
• Create CPS IDs for students from out of the district.
  
  
• Design automation processes for various reports in SAS and SQL.
  
  
• Conduct various preliminary data analyses for both internal and external stakeholders.
  
  
• Fulfill internal data requests on a daily basis.
  
  
• Audit historical application data.
  
  
• Create cross-training documents of data cleaning process.
  
  

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Data Analyst must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required :

A bachelor's degree in education, measurement, psychology, social science, public policy, economics, or related field including quantitative coursework; Master's or Doctoral degree strongly preferred

Type of Experience and Number of Years :

2-3 years of data mining and data analysis experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment, respond immediately to multiple constituencies and meet continuous critical deadlines
  
  
• Ability to bring projects to a close with minimal supervision
  
  
• Ability to handle large datasets of more than 300,000
  
  
• Knowledge of SAS, Python, SQL or R required
  
  
• Knowledge of Filemaker and Excel required
  
  
• Ability to write advanced queries, produce reports required
  
  
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills required
  
  
• Familiarity of CPS data systems is a plus
  
  

Residency Requirement: As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
