Essential Job Functions:The responsibilities for this support position in the Communications Department include supporting the Director of Communications and Community Engagement in the operational aspects of the District's communications program, with a focus on engagement, community relations, public affairs, media relations and creating and maintaining a robust print and online presence.
Individual Responsibilities:Assist in planning and execution of engagement programs to involve and raise awareness among parents, staff and community members in school programs, initiatives and decision- making processes
Integrate communication strategies and tactics into daily school operations
Write, edit and coordinate production of professional, informative and creative print publications and digital media
Establish a dynamic and robust online presence using social media campaigns to engage and influence key audiences; integrate online campaigns with traditional communication channels
Provide support for the District's work in Community Engagement
Assist in maintaining KCPS and school websites, ensuring content is relevant and up-to-date
Provide communications support to school and administrative personnel
Provide communications and marketing support for KCPS athletic and extra-curricular programs and KCPS-TV
Provide support to various parent and staff committees
Attend Board of Education meetings as needed and communicate meeting information to the public
Respond to patron/community requests for information
Photograph and video KCPS and school events
Provide support for and attend community relations events
Required Qualifications:Bachelors' degree in communications or related field
Three to five years of experience in communications, public relations or a related field
Media training and media relations experience
Fluency in Spanish and English
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite and with websites and social media
Ability to use photo and video equipment and editing software
Excellent social media content creation and management skills
Experience with website management
Proven track record managing multiple projects on deadline
Strong organizational skills
