Brief Description:

Substitute paraprofessional under general supervision, in a school or related tutorial program, performs tasks, which are in support of the teaching-learning process. This class is characterized by the performance of duties involved in the implementation of teacher plans and instructional programs. The Substitute Paraprofessional Educator may be assigned to assist one or more teachers on a regular or as required basis in the planning and conducting of appropriate programs to reinforce the teacher's initial instructions. Work is performed under the direction and leadership of the classroom teacher and/or assisting teachers and principals. Substitute paraprofessional educators follow the school calendar and may elect to work in any school, on any given day an assignment is available. Consequently, there is no expectation of employment or compensation during school holidays, breaks, or during the summer months.

This position is classified as temporary on-call and can be terminated at any time for a lawful reason.

  • Good understanding of the field of child development, and of instructional methods and techniques;
  • Ability to learn new methods and techniques;
  • Considerable patience and ability to work with children;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with and provide a broad range of assistance to the instructional staff; and
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    At least six (6) months to one (1) year of volunteer or paid experience working with children. Candidates must meet one or more of the following academic requirements: high school diploma, GED or higher.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    None required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    At the time of hire all Substitute Teacher applicants must:
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check and child protective service clearance
  • Provide official transcripts
  • Provide a Resume
  • Provide two (2) letters of recommendation (within the last 6 months)
  • Provide two (2) forms for identification


  • Pay Rate for 2019-2020 School Year - $11.50 per hour

    Additional Details:

    Direct Deposit is expected as a condition of new hire employment.
