The School District of Clayton is seeking a full-time English Teacher (0.67 FTE)/Learning Center Intern (0.33 FTE) at Clayton High School for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Successful Candidate:

Is knowledgeable about high school philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents and will be able to present the curriculum using a problem-centered approach.

Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.

Is knowledgeable about a broad range of literature - both classics and contemporary.

Holds high expectations for all students and serves as a facilitator of student learning.

Possesses strong writing skills across genres.

Has experience leading student writers through the writing process.

Supports students in the development of individual goals that foster independence and efficacy in writing.

Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings.

Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.

Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.

Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.

Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences.

Keeps abreast of current developments in the field and continues to deepen understanding of the discipline(s).

Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.

Learning Center Intern (0.33 FTE)

Learning Center Instructional Interns provide academic support to students across the core curriculum (English, Reading, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics). This position will concentrate mainly on supporting students' work within the English curriculum.

The successful candidate:

Provides support to the classroom teacher and assists with teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents

Demonstrates appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instruction and assists with the preparation of materials that support the student's learning

Uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to assist the classroom teacher in maximizing the learning of each child, individually and in group settings

Assists with the assessment of student progress and use the results to adjust instruction as needed

Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervising administrator(s)

Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Major or Minor in content area required. Master's Degree preferred.

Certification: Missouri teacher certification, with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

Experience: Preferred.

Compensation: 0.67 FTE @ Highly-competitive teacher salary http://www.clayton.k12.mo.us/page/679 and 0.33 FTE @ intern salary (19-20 intern=$25,000/yr.)
