Assistant Director of Student Intervention Services Role:

Reporting to the District Director of Pupil Services, this position requires an innovative leader with the vision and skills to assist the Director of Student Intervention Services in the oversight of the General Education Continuum of services. A primary role of this position will include working with building level teams on the implementation of The School Based Support Team (SBST) process. This will specifically require the convening of diverse stakeholder groups, establishing procedures, designing and facilitating professional development, analyzing data, & developing partnerships with principals in an effort to ensure consistent district wide SBST implementation. This position requires a high degree of creativity, collaboration and cultural competence.

Assistant Director of Student Intervention Services Expectations:
  • Program evaluation & articulating areas for improvement.
  • Defining strategies to effectively meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Maintaining a culture of high expectations for students, staff and families.
  • Implementing research-based practices, using data to monitor, measure, and improve student achievement.
  • Ensuring the implementation of student learner characteristics to determine student service levels and meet the needs of struggling learners.
  • Adhering to and communicating structures of explicit criteria for entering and exiting various service levels in the continuum.
  • Working collaboratively with principals to implement and monitor programs and services and to ensure the effective implementation.
  • Ensuring that the SBST process and its implementation is reflective of district vision & goals
  • Providing training for and overseeing the use of the district's student goal monitoring system to document and monitor Tier 2 and 3 interventions for students and other SBST documentation.
  • Collaborating cross-organizationally on School-based Support Teams and/or District-based Support Teams in driving the implementation of a rigorous and coherent student services system that is appropriately aligned to support the instructional goals aligned with Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS).
  • Working collaboratively with building leaders to monitor, supervise and coach teachers by visiting classrooms to observe instruction, modeling effective instructional practices, providing support, and giving feedback.
  • Supporting teacher analysis and use of assessment data to reflect on teaching practice, make instructional decisions, inform lesson plans and meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assisting the Director in implementing processes and structures that support organizational improvement related to student achievement.
  • Identify needed areas of Professional Development for staff, including assisting in the development of the PD plan and evaluating its effectiveness.
  • Communicating and collaborating with parents in order to promote a culture of ongoing parental engagement through use of effective customer service and communication.
  • Collaborating with community agencies to provide coordinated supports and services to families within the district.
  • Advocating for children, families and caregivers & ensuring service delivery and programming is culturally responsive.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree required;
  • Valid NYS School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification required;
  • At least 5 years of combined instructional, teacher supervision or related school administrative experience, including experience in the following areas is required:
    • Administrative experience within public education, urban setting is preferred;
    • Coordinating teacher support activities, in conjunction with school leaders, service providers, and teacher leaders; (does this need to be changed a little?)
    • Working closely with staff to incorporate high expectations and develop successful intervention support plans for students through the School Based Support Team process;
    • Leading workshops and trainings for pedagogical staff;
    • Mentoring and teacher development for new teachers with 0-3 years of experience.
