PURPOSE OF JOB: Incumbent is responsible for supervising district site base security officers, district patrol officers and contract security officers (if applicable). Supervisor shall act at the direction of the Principal of the school to which assigned for day to day activities. However, the Supervisor will remain under management control of the Safety & Security Department Management. The Supervisor shall be under the direct supervision of the Security Director (for Patrol) and/or Sited Base Security – Assistant Manager. Job duties require continued readiness to respond to situations within specified departmental procedures that may be life threatening or injurious; includes exposure to dangerous chemicals or other toxic substances, communicable diseases, fire, gun shots, physical confrontations, etc. Duties are performed as assigned in all weather conditions (indoors and outdoors) and on any shift (day or night). Must be able to work any shift as assigned with the understanding that the Security Department has a 24-hour responsibility to protect the students, staff, equipment and facilities of the Kansas City, Missouri School District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for all activities during his/her shift.

Assist the building administrator with developing a building emergency/safety plan that is in compliance with the district-wide emergency plan.

Ability to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively to record them clearly and completely; must use sound logic and independent judgment to react quickly and appropriately during normal day to day operations as well as during a dangerous and emergency incident. Written reports should be clear, concise, and complete with minimal spelling and grammar errors.

Ensure that his/her shift and/or personnel report and depart within the proper time frames.

Notify Building Administrator and Security Management in the case of a security officer call-off – and/or if a security officer will be late for duty.

Grant days off requests - the supervisor must keep the days off requests under control to minimize lost time, overtime and possible confusion of work schedules. When a day off is granted, the Building Administrator and Security Management will be made aware of the date and persons involved.

Directly supervise the activities of his/her personnel and other contract security if applicable.

Monitor personnel performance during assigned tasks.

Ensure that all District Administrative Policies, Safety & Security Department Policies and the Building Administrator Directives are adhered to.

Responsible for all paperwork (i.e., timekeeping, leave requests, incident reports) generated during his/her shift and/or site; and that all paperwork is correct, complete, and legible and forwarded to Security Management.

Required to make post checks to ensure all officers are performing their duties in a proper manner.

Assist any security officer who is having problems and resolve the situation as quickly as possible while exercising absolute diplomacy.

Counsel personnel on all aspects of performance, attitude and professionalism.

Responsible for training all personnel in accordance with the established training guides and standard operating procedures.

Ensure that all personnel are competent in performing all tasks described in the training guide.

Investigate officer misconduct violations via written documentation and make recommendations to correct the misconduct. Responsible for forwarding the documentation and recommendation to Security Management for final disposition.

Complete quarterly and annual written performance evaluations for the security officer under his/her supervision. Forward the evaluations to Security Management for review.

Maintain a cooperative relationship with the Building Administrator.

Maintain a cooperative relationship with other outside agencies (i.e., fire department, police department)

Conduct foot patrols (monitor) both inside and outside of assigned schools.

Attend all in-service training, as may be required by the Security Department Management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Six to thirteen non-exempt patrol or site based officers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Associate Degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, or a closely related discipline

[Four (4) years of security supervisory experience may be substituted for the degree requirement]

Experience

Three (3) years' supervisory experience;

[Note: As determined by the Director of Security/Safety, supervisory training coursework at an accredited post-secondary institution may be substituted for this requirement. Coursework must be satisfactorily completed within a reasonable time period after assignment, as specified by the Director]

Successfully pass the District's pre-employment drug screen.

Successfully pass the District's pre-employment physical (medical) exam.

Successfully pass the entrant Safety & Security Officer exam.

Certificate of Completion for the IS-700.a – National Incident Management System (NIMS).An Introduction training and testing

Certificate of Completion for the IS-100.SCa-Introduction to the Incident Command System for Schools training and testing

Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Be insurable with the District Risk Management insurance provider.

Qualify for and maintain a Private Officers' Commission commensurate with assignment. (armed) Note: Must successfully pass the District drug screen when renewing license.

Exemplary Professional Image and Attitude.

Detail oriented.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system, criminal law and applicable city ordinances.

Above average skills and experience in Microsoft Word applications including Excel, Access, and Word.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
