Functioning at a proficient level of technical expertise provides technical support to one or more areas of operations within City School's 21 st Century School Buildings Program (21 st CSBP). The Operational Support Specialist is a support technician position that is accountable for ensuring continuity of network and audio-visual maintenance, computer system services for computer users by providing the technical expertise, assistance and project coordination necessary to install computer software products, modify/repair hardware and resolve technical problems.

Essential Functions

  • Provides onsite technical support services including installations, support and troubleshooting for 21st CSBP schools.
  • Performs troubleshooting and research towards the resolution of Technology related problems.
  • Creates and maintains moderately complex tracking databases for deployment of technical resources, communications with identified staff, schools and communications with external resources such as vendors and/or consultants.
  • Performs and documents customer support processes for 21 st CSBP.
  • Ensures that systems and system changes are properly documented and communicated.
  • Assists in the installation hardware and software as directed or requested.
  • Responsible for moderately complex tasks relating to network monitoring, operations, installation, and/or maintenance.
  • Prepares, and/or maintains systems, development, and operations documentation, including user manuals. Responsible for maintaining current internal documentation libraries.
  • Provides moderately complex LAN/WAN support as requested.
  • May participate as team member in projects of small size, scope and complexity.
  • Maintains a professional technical knowledge of Baltimore City Public Schools application program, database, operating system, customer data retrieval process, or network configuration.
  • Performs the setup and adjusting of audio-visual equipment and performing routine maintenance.
  • Works with school leadership on design, testing, installation and positioning of equipment and props for live events or meetings. Maintains accurate record of equipment inventory and troubleshoots equipment problems.
  • Participates in ongoing professional learning and project team meetings to increase technical, interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency related to the projects to which assigned.
  • Utilizes tact and exercises good judgement in interacting with the public, schools and central office personnel.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Minimum Salary 42106.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science of a closely related field and technical certifications and one year directly related experience;
  • Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or closely related field and two years directly related experience; or an Associate?s degree or a closely related field and technical certifications(s) and three years directly related experience; or an Associate?s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and four years directly related experience; or a High School diploma and technical certification(s) and six years directly related experience; or a High School diploma and eight years directly related experience. Degrees must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Maintains knowledge of data communications troubleshooting or network control activities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with diverse stakeholders
