Description
Systems Engineer, ITS Infrastructure (12 month contract)
Position summary
Working within a team, this position is responsible for specifying, designing, implementing, maintaining and evolving NWEA's internal operations infrastructure, ensuring that all systems and data are operational and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes all servers, storage, and networking equipment. The Systems Engineer also p articipates in capacity planning, new technologies, process improvement efforts, and provides new designs that increase our capacity, reliability, security, and availability while moving the organization into our technology future. A Systems Engineer is expected to take initiative to solve problems with little direction.
Responsibilities
• Design and document system infrastructure and procedures
• Participate in capacity planning efforts
• Participate in security initiatives
• Communicate design options to the Infrastructure Architect
• Work with project managers, department heads and team members to determine project approaches, parameters, and priorities
• Communicate plans, status, and issues to management
• Work with colleagues to optimize overall system performance. This includes working with applications, network, storage, database, and server technology
• Provide support to internal and external consumers of technology and data , including participation in the 24x7 on-call rotation
• Assist in the development of NWEA security policies and procedures regarding system and data access
• Provide mid to expert level PowerShell and scripting support
• Perform system audits, document findings, and publish recommendations
• Keep abreast of technical developments to ensure NWEA is able to take advantage of industry advances
• Develop and foster strong working relationships with clients and staff
Skills and abilities
• Ability to work both individually and as part of a team a must
• Experience with NIST & CIS Security Framework s a must
• Experience working in PCI & HIPAA environments a plus
• Experience with SOC Type I & Type II audits a plus
• Experience with design, installation, and configuration of VMware ESX clusters
• Understanding of virtualized infrastructures in the multi-tenant environment
• Experience with enterprise backup solutions ( Rubrik a plus)
• Day to day experience with Windows Domain Controllers/Active Directory/SMTP/Web/DNS/DHCP services
• Experience in both Microsoft and Linux OS environments
• Experience and knowledge in network technologies
• Experience using S CCM
• Exposure to disaster recovery technologies/concepts
• Intermediate level analytical abilities, diagnostic skills, and technical aptitude
• Intermediate level understanding of information security best practices and principles, including experience creating and maintaining system safeguards
• Self-- - Motivation and ability to research and present solutions to the team for review
• Experience in 24x7 high availability production/sustaining processes, including "lights out" support and remote administration
• Experience in managing equipment installs and availability in a Data Center environment
• Excellent listening skills and a commitment to communicate clearly, completely, and in a timely manner
• Exceptional skills in partnering with clients and staff and in developing and maintaining long term supportive relationships
• Ability to assess the effectiveness of processes and procedures and lead improvement efforts include documenting and implementing
• Ability to research complex issues while knowing when to ask for help
• Ability to work individually and also in team collaborative environments
Education and E xperience
• Minimum bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
• Minimum 4 years related experience with Windows Server OS, Active Directory, DNS and a solid understanding of operating in secure configurations
• Minimum 2 years' experience working with Microsoft SCCM & SCOM
• A t least 2 years' experience working in secure NIST/CIS environments
• Minimum 1 year of Azure experience

- Experience with load balancing technologies (F5 experience a plus)
