Mastery is creating a national model to ensure that all students leave high school on a path toward postsecondary success. To do this, we are redesigning our approach to include multiple pathways and a tailored high school experience.
We are seeking an exceptional leader to serve as our network Director of Postsecondary Placement. The goal of the DPP is to ensure our students are placed and persist through graduation at their chosen postsecondary educational institution or vocation. To do so, the DPP will have a leading role in developing and overseeing advisement and placement practices. Additionally, the DPP is responsible for supporting the school-based staff at our 7 Mastery high schools who provide students with the college and career preparation and advising necessary to set them on a path to postsecondary success. This includes overseeing and continuing to build the 3 year-long Seminar courses that Mastery students take and a full-scale Internship program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage College Teams Across All Secondary Campuses
Support and supervise College Advisors including postsecondary advising and the placement process
Manage and improve the current process to increase best-fit placement and First Fall Direct Enrollment
Participate in a task force to develop and implement a differentiated 12th grade experience based on multiple postsecondary pathway
Support and supervise Junior Seminar Coordinators
Develop and manage a Junior Seminar course where students explore postsecondary options
Improve the postsecondary list creation of Mastery Juniors
Ensure Mastery utilizes best practices to prepare students for the ACT and other standardized tests
Support and supervise Internship Coordinators and the Internship process and outcomes
Manage an Internship program that provides all students with authentic out-of-school learning opportunities
Manage the seminar course and curriculum
Identify internship opportunities and develop partnerships in Philadelphia and Camden
Collect and analyze student performance data; intervene and redirect when program is not effective
Communicate progress and outcomes to central office team and school administrations
Lead the hiring process for school-based positions
Develop and deliver relevant professional development for school-based staff
Qualifications:
Excellent Management Experience: Manage a team effectively and support team members to grow professionally
Relationship Builder: Able to see the world from the point of view of our constituents, garner buy-in and move the ball forward
Systems Thinker: Experience developing and monitoring systems, protocols, and trainings
Analytical Thinker: Able to analyze programs and understand what drives program effectiveness
Exceptional organization skills - a detail-oriented approach to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure;
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports as well as analyze data in order to make improvement recommendations
Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills both orally and in writing with ability to effectively connect with broad range of constituents
Comfort and demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate and engage various size groups
Track-record of high achievement (premium placed on experience in urban communities and schools)
Personal drive and commitment to serve urban youth
Deep belief in one's own ability to significantly increase college going, persistence and graduation rates for Mastery alums
Ability to effectively work alone and with a high-performing, mission-driven staff
Consistently evaluates progress, using data to drive changes in alumni support program
Demonstrated resilience to persevere and turn challenges into opportunities while meeting aggressive goals despite limited resources
Ability to be a self-starter and creative problem solver while also being a quick learner who is willing to ask questions and seek feedback
Education and Experience:
Experience managing programming; success developing and implementing programming in a large education, government, or non-profit organization
Experience managing teams
A proven track record of achieving measurable results
Excellent oral and written communication skills
BA/BS required
Work with urban youth in educational settings in related college access and/or career preparation preferred
Familiarity with aspects of college counseling and career exposure programs, including college planning, career development, internships, as well as matriculation challenges and other barriers faced by low-income, first-generation college students preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as maneuvering in classrooms and office space-reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, and making phone calls; Must be able to sit for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing.
