The position of Life Skills Support Teacher serves an essential role in support of Insight PA students with extensive needs in the areas of intellectual, functional, and/or daily living skills. This teacher assignment would have a dedicated student caseload of students requiring an alternate, functional instructional curriculum and individually-determined integration within the general education curriculum. Most ISPA students requiring supplemental or full time Life Skills Support may currently meet eligibility requirements to take the PA Alternate Standards Assessment (PASA); however each would require annual IEP team review of student performance data against those criteria for recommended participation in State assessments for the subsequent school year. The Life Skills Support teacher represents the Case Manager for each student on their caseload, and is tasked with delivering specially designed instruction, progress monitoring, and IEP reviews/revisions as warranted. There is approximately 10% travel requirements anticipated for this position over the course of the school year. AS A VIRTUAL TEACHER, YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Serves as primary point of contact for initiating maintaining communications with families of assigned students requiring Life Skills Support
  • Tracks and oversees special education events for compliance such as annual IEP reviews and/or re-evaluation timelines
  • Utilizes the prescribed alternate curriculum standards and resources for primary instruction with additional supplemental resources that would serve an individual goal or to collect additional data
  • Analyzes skills of student caseload for scheduling and holding instructional sessions in small group and/or 1-on-1 formats as appropriate
  • Conducts and reviews initial and periodic assessments according to PA Alternate Standards to ensure appropriate IEP goals and objectives are incorporated into each student's IEP
  • Engages with essential department personnel regularly as warranted for programming and/or service needs such as related services, evaluations, equipment or supplemental aids, daily attendance
  • Collects and maintains progress monitoring data from other IEP team members, such as therapists, general education teachers, and Transition Coordinator(s) to ensure regular review of essential skills for academic mastery and for post-secondary programming
  • Provides Special Education summaries and supports the attainment of input from all IEP team members for comprehensive initial and/or re-evaluation data collection needs
  • Consults with ISPA School Psychologist(s), Instructional Coordinator(s) and/or other Academic Administrators as needed for complex student profiles with special considerations
  • Administers the PASA with individual eligible students residing within reasonable proximity of the Life Skills Support Teacher's home address
  • Utilizes multi-modal instructional and data-collection tools and strategies for students requiring alternate communication devices or individual behavior plans
  • Ensures accommodations outlined in IEPs are established for regular student access during instruction or for local and State assessments as specified
  • Communicates with other instructional personnel on individual student learning styles, interests, or transition activities for post-secondary skill development

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Special Education
  • Active PA certification in Special Education (any level)
  • All required PDE clearances (within 1 year required for hiring)
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing measurable IEP goals for effective progress monitoring
  • 3+ years of experience directly writing IEPs AND leading IEP meetings in a public-school setting (preferred)
  • 1+ year of experience teaching in a virtual school setting (preferred)
  • Expertise in supporting students with significant cognitive differences who require adaptive or functional curricula and/or services
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
    Certificates and Licenses: Active PDE Teacher Certification in Special Education (any level)
Other Required Qualifications
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Strong proficiency in web-based instructional programs and/or progress monitoring tools
  • Ability to travel for occasional required all-staff events (Professional Development, State testing, etc.)
  • Ability to produce letter(s) of reference upon request

  • Outstanding professionalism in interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously in establishing, re-prioritizing, and/or modifying daily schedule as student and/or department needs arise
  • Expertise in IDEA eligibility factors & PDE compliance timelines

  • This is a home-based position, for candidates residing 30+ miles from the Insight PA main office located in Exton, PA; Candidates residing approximately 30 miles or less would be required to work from the Exton office 2 days a week
