General Description

Coordinates the services, activities, programs of the Math and Science High School at Clover Hill to students and staff; provides information, guidance and administrative support to candidates, colleagues and other stakeholders; provides instructional leadership and supervises the delivery of the curriculum; supports a staff of professional and support instructional personnel under direction of the principal.

Essential Job Functions

  • Under the direction of the principal, provides leadership and direction to the teachers and support staff; reviews and analyzes data to lead the center's efforts in achieving high academic performance of all students. Provides leadership in promoting choices for students in pursuing courses of study appropriate for their special talents and interests.
  • Coordinates with the principal and the Personnel Department staffing needs; recommends staffing changes; participates in the recruitment, selection and assignment of the center's staff.
  • Coordinates curriculum development with the department of Curriculum Development and Support, administrators, specialists and teachers.
  • Interprets School Board policy, procedure and guidelines to parents and public. Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statute, policy and guidelines related to public schools and in particular the operation of programs for the academically talented and special education. Assists principal in directing appropriate programs to include athletic, performing arts, and academic activities.
  • Represents the Math and Science High School at meetings, conferences, hearings, and other public forums; gathers citizen and parental input.
  • Under the direction of the school principal the coordinator would be responsible for curriculum design, course selection, staff selection, curriculum writing and material/textbook selection and ordering.
  • Responsible for communicating educational opportunities at the Math and Science High School, including conducting orientations, open houses, and county-wide curriculum fairs. Prepares and edits brochures and other publications.
  • Responsible for student selection and notification.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence in the skills and qualities needed for successful site supervision.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and differentiates instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies of instructional and program planning and delivery; of instructional and curricular needs of gifted and talented learners; of child growth and development, total school operation and group dynamics and of related state federal regulations. Demonstrated abilities in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long range planning and forecasting and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Requirements

  • Eligible for Virginia licensure (mandatory).
  • teaching experience at secondary level .
  • experience in working with high school students preferred.
  • Master's degree in education-related discipline preferred.
  • department chairperson experience preferred.
  • previous experience in curriculum writing preferred.
  • staff development training preferred.
  • experience in school-based leadership initiatives preferred.
