Provides district-wide coordination, and leadership in the areas of specialized learning, including development and monitoring of strategic plans and coordination of the development of district curriculum supports for inclusive, self-contained and multi-grade classrooms, assessments, and professional development. Provides support to City Schools principals and educators in the areas of specialized instruction for students with disabilities.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of specialized services, programs and best practices to improve the delivery of instructional services for specialized instruction for students with disabilities across the continuum of educational settings.
  • Partners with other academic offices, particularly within Teaching and Learning and Special Education, but also Whole Child Support and Services, and College and Career Readiness to build the capacity of district teachers and leaders in inclusive practices, curriculum updates and programming for students with disabilities.
  • Manages assigned staff in the development, design, review, implementation and periodic evaluation of project plans and strategies to support the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Plans, organizes for, and implements professional development activities and programs for teachers with special emphasis on instruction, assessment and achievement for students with disabilities.
• Develops and delivers ongoing professional development around best practices in specialized instruction for district staff, school leaders, and teachers.
  • Coordinates technical assistance to network teams and school-based staff in the management of the bridge plan for academic validation for students with disabilities.
• Develops appropriate guidance for school leaders on current best practices in specialized instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Works collaboratively with staff in the Achievement & Accountability Office, Chief of School Office and all other offices supporting Special Education instruction.
• Keeps the Director- Specialized Learning abreast of all matters related to the areas of assignment.
• Develops and provides professional development activities and technical assistance to content liaisons in areas related to the implementation of instructional support with regard to students with disabilities for teachers and school based staff.
• Provides appropriate supervision, mentoring, and professional growth and development opportunities to assigned staff.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.

Minimum Salary 80987.00
Desired Qualifications • Master?s degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
• Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement.
• Three years teaching experience in Special Education.
• Three years? experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers, including experience beyond the school level. Urban school experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and development of curriculum, assessments, and professional development.
• Knowledge of effective student, school, and district assessment tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to make effective presentations.
• Effective interpersonal, coaching, and organizational skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
• Ability to facilitate positive communication and coordination of program activities with teachers, administrators, and staff.
• Ability to analyze and interpret data.
• Ability to prepare and deliver persuasive presentations.
• Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point.
