JOB TITLE:
HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
JOB SUMMARY:
The building principal provides leadership in program development and direction of the operation of the school. The principal assists the Superintendent or his/her designee in carrying out the routine, special, and legal functions of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Valid Wisconsin teaching and administrative certificate.
• Master's degree in Educational Administration or the equivalent.
• Demonstrated expertise in school curriculum development.
• Ability to develop positive constructive relations with students, staff, and public.
• Principal experience required, preferably at the high school level
Preferred:
• Three years of teaching experience at the elementary school, middle school or junior high school level (elementary or middle school principals); or at the middle school, junior high or high school level (middle school or high school principals).
• Three years of leadership experience.
• Working knowledge of technology used for scheduling, assessing, and monitoring students.
• Successful experience leading a team of diverse staff.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1.
Administers the school program and facilities.
2.
Implements Board policies and procedures.
3.
Supervises and provides leadership for the instructional program and building operations.
4.
Leads and coordinates selection, development, and evaluation of staff.
5.
Administers the staff personnel system of the school in conjunction with the Superintendent and Director of Employee Services.
6.
Prepares, administers and evaluates the budget allocation of the school in conjunction with Board policy and business office procedures.
7.
Communicates the school program to parents, school related groups including parent teacher organization, and the community.
8.
Administers procedures for assessing student progress.
9.
Works cooperatively with the Director of Teaching and Learning-Secondary and other secondary and elementary administrators in establishing and maintaining a K 12 articulated program.
10.
Administers student support, discipline and attendance procedures in accordance with the Administration and Board policy.
11.
Develops a School Improvement Plan annually and presents to the Board of Education.
12.
Leads and coordinates supervision and evaluation of all certified and non certified staff in accordance with District staff evaluation procedures.
13.
Coordinates decision-making processes in the building.
14.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or as appropriate to the job assignment.
ASSOCIATED FUNCTIONS:
1.
Ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of school health and safety program.
2.
Ensures coordination of the functions of custodial, food service, and other support services provided to the school.
3.
Remains current with educational practices and theory.
TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
(Based on percentages, measured in terms of frequency: Occasionally = 0 33%, Frequently = 34 66%, Constantly = 67 100%)
PHYSICAL:
This is a light job which involves only a negligible amount or up to 10 pounds of force regularly and exerting forces up to 20 pounds occasionally. This job primarily involves sitting with a significant need to move about. Reaching forward, handling objects and papers, and fine manipulation are all performed occasionally. Verbal and auditory communication are frequently involved. Near acuity is frequently utilized.
