JOB DESCRIPTION:

The District Personalized Learning (PL) Instructional coach is charged with furthering the implementation of Syracuse City School District's Personalized Learning initiative through professional development, school based coaching cycles, and facilitation of grants and fellowships. The PL coach may work with all school stakeholders, including teachers, coaches, librarians, and administration to ensure an effective instructional program aligned with the SCSD CORE Four of Personalized Learning Rubric. The District wide PL Instructional coach will collaborate across all areas of SCSD programs. The PL Instructional Coach is responsible for providing support in designing of units and lessons, content knowledge in all academic areas, analyzing data in order to modify curriculum, and forms of assessment and sharing of best practices for personalizing learning.

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Library Media Services

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete Coaching Cycles with school teams, resulting in instructional team action plans to improve PL.
    • Conduct school-wide learning walks to collect data based on the Core Four and produce comprehensive PL Reports based on that data.
    • Along with the PL Team supervisor, meet with collaborative planning teams and the principals to report on instructional practices and progress and create action plans for student and school improvement.
    • Assist in implementation of action plans with a focus on personalized learning, specifically competency based learning, project based learning, personalized learning plans, and the use of technology to support classroom instruction.
    • Review results of action plan looking specifically for transfer from instructional team actions to student performance.
    • Develop and maintain a system for documenting and reporting on this work.
  • Design and deliver PL based PD programs that result in classroom transfer, modeling and facilitating research-based best practices that support implementation of the Core Four Rubric and building capacity in personalized learning throughout the District.
    • Design PD packages focused on personalized learning that can be adapted for specific school and delivery situations, present or train others to present.
    • Model Design Thinking and Inquiry Cycles when designing PD.
    • Maintain ongoing PD schedule, including calendar, rooms, and materials.
  • Manage SyraFuse Fellow Program, including recruiting participants; managing application process; and training and evaluation of FUSE Fellows.
    • Design/edit applications.
    • Schedule application process including teacher reviews.
    • Provide Professional Development.
    • Facilitate coaching cycles with each SyraFuse Fellow.
    • Maintain ongoing PD schedule, including calendar, conferences, rooms, and materials.
  • Provide ongoing, sustained coaching and assistance to assigned programs, including weekly visits, professional development as requested, data analysis, program evaluation, and/or curriculum development.
  • Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results.
  • Collaborate with teachers and principals to identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate resources that directly support and align with personalized learning and The Core Four of PL.
  • Manage PL grants, including teacher participation (proposals, feedback, evidence collection, time sheets, report writing, etc.).
  • Administrative tasks related to the above, including, but not limited room scheduling, appointment calendars, record keeping, and report writing.
  • Serve as a point of contact between the district and the schools as it relates to personalized learning.
  • Represent the District at meetings, programs, conferences, and conventions.
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Library Media Services.


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily with students of color and low-income students.
  • Significant experience with curriculum development and daily lesson planning.
  • Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify lessons.
  • Knowledge of and experience with backwards designed curricular models and Understanding by Design.
  • Significant experience with instructional best practices, including the use of digital content to develop personalized pathways for students.
  • Ability to model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding.
  • Comfort and willingness to actively participate in school community.
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the SCSD mission and willingness to serve the SCSD community.
  • Experience in professional development and leadership roles working with adults
  • Ability to plan, model, coach and provide feedback to individual teachers and teams of teachers to improve teaching and learning.
  • Experience implementing effective instructional practices, designing engaging lessons, using data and formative assessment in the classroom and implementing the four-tiered intervention system.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience required.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience leading other teachers to achieve strong academic results.
  • Appropriate New York State Teacher Certification.*
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit; be flexible, willing and able to play different instructional roles at the school; and be willing to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of the students of the SCSD.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills.
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire
  • Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work beyond the ten-month school year and student day.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

This position will earn a stipend of $8,000, in addition to the current starting salary of $48,500 for SCSD Teachers. With proof of outside, related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
