Director of Postsecondary Pathways

Job Details

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every childin every school and every neighborhoodhas access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school college- and career-ready.

Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, all Chicago Public Schools (CPS) seniors will be required to have a concrete postsecondary plan in order to graduate. More than just a graduation requirement, however, LEARN.PLAN.SUCCEED (LPS) represents CPS' commitment to helping all students identify and embark on pathways that set them up for success in postsecondary education, career, and life beyond high school. Since there are many paths to long-term success, students can satisfy the LPS graduation requirement by going to a two- or four-year college, entering an apprenticeship or job training program, enrolling in an approved gap year program, joining the workforce directly, or serving in the military.

Reporting to the Chief of Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), the Director of Postsecondary Pathways will lead CPS' implementation of LPS by developing and managing a detailed project scope and plan; aligning internal and external resources to it; and supporting collaboration across CPS schools, central office departments, and postsecondary partners to successfully execute it. In particular, the Director of Postsecondary Pathways will facilitate convergence around LPS execution among OCCS' six divisions: the Office of Early College and Career Education, the Office of Student Counseling and Postsecondary Advising (OSCPA), the Office of Social-Emotional Learning (OSEL), the Office of Student Support and Engagement (OSSE), the Office of Computer Science (CS), and the district's competency-based education pilot.

  • Develop, manage, and continuously refine an LPS project plan, including clear timelines, milestones, and deliverables; ensure key project elements are completed on time and on budget

  • Develop, adapt, and refine infrastructure necessary for effective LPS implementation, including both exostructure (standards, assessments, data/reporting systems, accountability structures) and endostructure (tools, materials, and practical guidance to help teachers, counselors, and other frontline educators enact LPS in classrooms and schools)

  • Delegate/allocate and coordinate key LPS tasks and workstreams among OCCS department leaders and staff

  • Convene, and facilitate meetings of internal and external stakeholders to execute key workstreams and build understanding, buy-in, and commitment, and capacity around LPS and postsecondary pathways

  • Define and track progress towards key implementation and impact goals

  • Create agendas, memos, spreadsheets, presentations, and data analyses to support LPS implementation

  • Ensure successful completion of the LPS graduation requirement for all students, with a special focus on marginalized populations including young men of color, diverse learners, opportunity youth, students in temporary living situations, and justice-involved youth

  • Design and oversee a fair, transparent, and consistent process for schools/students to apply for LPS waivers

  • Identify, advocate for, and facilitate equitable allocation of internal human, material, and financial resources

  • Partner with CPS Children First Fund (CFF) to refine and implement an LPS fundraising strategy

  • Partner with CPS Communications team to develop and implement an LPS communications strategy

  • In conjunction with the OCCS' College Compact lead, partner as necessary with postsecondary institutions to increase the postsecondary completion rates for CPS graduates.
