The Gifted and Talented Teacher Ensure sound, individualized education for gifted and talented students. AS A VIRTUAL TEACHER, YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Assist building principals and gifted/talented coordinator, in conjunction with the building level selection team, in identification of gifted students.
  • Serve as a resource person for the classroom teachers, providing materials, methods, and ideas to ensure appropriate educational experiences for the gifted student in the regular classroom.
  • Serve as a member of the school team which is made up of the principal and classroom teacher, communicating frequently and regularly with parents of the gifted students.
  • Assist the gifted/talented coordinator in District in-service directed at an awareness of gifted education at AZVA and the development of teaching skills necessary to better meet the needs of the gifted in the regular classroom.
  • Is knowledgeable of and utilizes the forms, goals and objectives described in the RISE @AZVA Handbook
  • Has knowledge and understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics, needs, and problems found in gifted students as a result of their atypical mental development.
  • Develop and implement an individualized, enriching curriculum appropriate to meeting the individual gifted pupil's needs and nurturing group interaction.
  • Create an environment in which the gifted can use their strengths, explore their personal and interpersonal development, risk new areas of thought and action and feel challenged.
  • Will nurture creativity in all its aspects of thinking, feeling, intuiting, and expressing talent through products.
  • Encourage in gifted learners a sense of social awareness and commitment to humanity and to their environment, and a respect for the worth and dignity of others.
  • Work in conjunction with regular classroom teachers to provide instruction in higher level thinking skills and problem solving skills for all students.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum six (6) months teaching experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Appropriate State certification
  • Meets State 's NCLB's Highly Qualified Teacher requirements
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel at least once per month within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group
  • An ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g., database and web-based tools)

Other Skills and Abilities
  • Has a strong commitment toward gifted education and can demonstrate ability to individualize and make use of techniques for teaching gifted students.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to analyze test data for use in making curricular decisions. General computer skills, including Internet research skills and data entry.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment
  • Familiar with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms
