Summary: To supervise, organize, and participate in the electrical activities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks including the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, and to provide staff assistance to the Electrical Supervisor.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of departmental goals and objectives
  • Establishes schedules and methods for the electrical maintenance staff
  • Implements policies and procedures
  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of the electrical staff
  • Evaluates operations and activities of electrical system installation, maintenance and repair; then recommends improvements and modifications
  • Inspects work by outside contractors to ensure it complies with CMS standards
  • Assists with Electrical Commissioning
  • Assists in the selection of renovation sites or equipment replacement
  • Has full knowledge and use of Electrical metering equipment
  • Installs Electrical conduit and networking raceways
  • Performs tests and maintains records for emergency backup systems
  • Acquires materials and inventory as needed to maintain production of the crew
  • Repairs electrical deficiencies as noted by State and Local fire, safety, and insurance officials
  • Estimates cost of repairs (labor, materials); purchases materials/supplies; and maintains records involving time, labor, and materials
  • Performs the most complex electrical duties. Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces defective or worn electrical parts in motors, generators, pumps, breaker panels, HVAC, Plumbing, and Energy Management Controls, switches and other facilities and equipment
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions and identifies plan of action to resolve problems
  • Has ability to read and work from diagrams, blueprints, plans, and specifications
  • Assists in the training of staff
  • Instructs all employees in safe work practices
  • Assists in the Evaluation of Electricians
  • Manages departmental materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Maintains records of work completed and costs associated with projects
  • Ability to identify problems with related HVAC, Plumbing, Energy Management Equipment, and collaborate with respective technicians in the repair
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

Minimum

· High School Diploma or GED

· Mecklenburg County Journeyman's Electrical License and ten (10) years of increasingly responsible electrical experience

Desired

  • Graduate of trade school or community college with heavy emphasis in electrical
  • N.C. State Contractor's License with ten (10) years of increasingly responsible electrical experience


Licensing / Certification Requirements:

  • Possess a valid North Carolina Driver's license

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge of full range of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade
  • Knowledge of components and parts used in electrical distribution, H.I.D. lighting, and advanced electrical controls used in HVAC, Energy Management, and Plumbing Equipment
  • Ability to demonstrate troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to demonstrate blueprint and schematic reading skills
  • Ability to maintain record keeping
  • Ability to demonstrate mechanical proficiency
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Ability to provide training for Electrician I, II, and Electrical Controls Specialist positions
  • Ability to work in hazardous and emergency situations
  • Ability of understand oral and written instructions and perform with little or no supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate safe work practices
  • Ability to obtain additional electrical training with 8 credit hours annually
