POSITION SUMMARY:

This role will allow for more comprehensive outreach to parents and collaborative interaction with social service agencies, including the Department of Human Services, United Way, the Housing Authority, etc. The Family Services Support Specialist will work on a district-wide basis with multiple schools to offer specific services to families designed to educate parents about the developmental and academic needs of their children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Trains and makes presentations to small and large groups of stakeholders, including parents, community partners, teachers, and staff.
- Completes, maintains, and/or updates family profiles, registration and health information, referral services, conferences, and family participation in the Pre-K program.
- Maintains and transitions child records to ensure accurate reporting as deemed necessary by APS, Bright from the Start, or Head Start.
- Analyzes parent and family needs and makes recommendations to aide in resolving issues/concerns.
- Designs and develops materials and other documents such as flyers, postcards, PowerPoints, reports, and spreadsheets to effectively communicate program initiatives.
- Develops and delivers Pre-K orientation sessions and facilitates quarterly meetings with families.
- Collaborates with APS parent liaisons and external agencies to implement and expand outreach opportunities and programs.
- Recruits/enrolls eligible children into the program, including those with disabilities.
- Represents APS at external agency and internal department meetings.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated.
Requirements: EDUCATION:
- Bachelor?s Degree in Social Work, Health or related field and three (3) years experience in social services/health services.
- A combination of education and work experience directly related to social services and/or health will be considered.
- Three (3) years experience in social services/health services.
- Additional experience with developing marketing materials.
- Valid Georgia Driver?s License.
- Must be computer literate in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook .
- Must know how to set up and trouble shoot presentation equipment, including LCD projection devices, interactive whiteboards, laptops, speakers, and portable screens, etc.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to make recommendations on various topics, detailed, controversial, simple, or comple
- Ability to conduct and maintain case management activities.
- Must be computer literate and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours for extended day services, parent and community meetings.
- Makes home visits as needed in order to involve parents in service delivery.
