Job Summary
The Refrigeration Specialist performs maintenance and repairs not requiring a boiler license. The assistant will also perform service or repairs on machinery and building structures. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.Minimum of five years of experience within the past six years in the field of facility maintenance and refrigeration.Must have an EPA 608 universal license.Must be a maintenance repairer, journeyman in refrigeration, or approved equal.Advanced knowledge of production, assembly line, and refrigeration work.Advanced knowledge of standard mechanical equipment, including but not limited to shop equipment, food service equipment (preplate machines, over wrap machines, food pumpers, industrial size can opener/can crushers, industrial size pot and pan washers, steam kettles, refrigerators, freezers, etc.) machinery (conveyers, boilers, chains, bearings, shafts, refrigerator doors, locks, all moving parts), office furniture, and overhead hoist.Knowledge of electricity (120, 208, 240, 277, 480 volts), single and three phase, and pneumatic and natural gas operated equipment.Ability to assemble, dismantle, adjust, lube, clean, and repair machinery and mechanical equipment.Ability to inspect and make repairs to school and central kitchen refrigeration equipment.Must know the procedures for lock out tag out.Must possess a current Alaska driver's license.Correctable vision required.Knowledgeable about and able to work with refrigerants.Ability to comply with workplace safety regulatory requirements.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

The following are preferred:
  1. Successful completion of an industrial refrigeration technician program.Ability to accurately read and follow blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and other detailed technical instructional materials.Ability to write and maintain maintenance reports and document information as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Performs minor maintenance and repairs not requiring a boiler license on steam kettles, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, food chillers, and associated equipment and services or replaces any or all components.Maintains and repairs buildings, including paint touch up and repair of small holes, dents, or scratches.Ability to perform minor grounds maintenance including snow removal, sanding, deicing, and trimming.Inspects, maintains, and repairs refrigeration units.Cleans up after each project leaving job site clean and safe.Works within established safety procedures.Works cooperatively with others within established maintenance and safety procedures.

Physical/Mental Demands
  • This position routinely requires lifting up to 50 pounds, with our without accommodations, and may require lifting over 50 pounds with assistance.This position routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
