Here's what you need to know:
We need you to help our students develop the skills they need to communicate and succeed in school.

As Learning Disability Teacher Consultant, you will evaluate students and write reports to  determine what specific needs, accommodations or modifications our students require in order to succeed. You will be a vital member of the child study team and will have input in special education decisions.

A bit more about you...you have experience evaluating students with special needs. You're a special education expert, having taught or worked with students with special needs for a few years. You're a hard worker who's willing to do whatever it takes to help all kids succeed.

Here's what you'll be doing.
Evaluation Services:

  • Administers assessments based on the student evaluation plan as determined in the identification or re-eligibility planning meeting.
  • Keeps abreast of diagnostic tests and materials and any changes in tests and materials.
  • Conducts only those tests necessary but performs additional alternative evaluations if diagnosis is unclear to ensure that all areas of suspected disability are addressed.
  • Includes classroom observations and/or work analysis as a part of all evaluations.
  • Develops a summary template to translate test results into accommodations/modifications for both school and home.
  • Recommends assistive technology evaluations when necessary.
  • Attends identification meetings for students on caseload; attends meetings in which results from an evaluation need to be shared/interpreted with the team.
  • Writes reports using a reader-friendly index and explains to parents and students evaluation findings in clear, understandable language with cultural sensitivity.
  • Works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Stays abreast of IDEA and local regulations regarding the special education eligibility of the student.
  • Collaborates with special education staff to streamline processes and procedures connected to evaluation.
  • Meets with campus-based CST's to discuss concerns, questions, complex cases, and random reviews of reports.
 
Campus supports

  • Understands individual school's mission and delivers services to coincide with school's program.
  • Researches and shares classroom strategies to support evaluated students (based on classroom observations, recent evaluations, and complex cases).
 
Must Haves (ie. what you need to rock this role)=

  • Valid New Jersey Educational Services Certificate with Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant Endorsement
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively assess children's learning characteristics, design appropriate instructional strategies and plan educational programs
