Job Summary

Improves social studies instruction and content knowledge by coaching, modeling, training, and supporting school-based social studies teachers.

Essential Functions

1. Assists teachers with analyzing school, class, and individual student data to determine needs in social studies.
2. Participates in focus walks with state, district, and/or school-based personnel to collect and analyze data to plan for instruction and professional development.
3. Assists social studies teachers with planning instruction based on national and state standards; use of Curriculum Guides, Curriculum Lesson Guides, Curriculum Assessments and instructional strategies and materials effectively; and use of data from formative assessments and district assessments to improve instruction.
4. Provides classroom support by conducting the coaching cycle of observing, co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, and providing specific feedback.
5. Assists teachers with understanding state and district mandates with targeted strategies and methods and how these mandates support student achievement.
6. Develops and delivers school-based professional development in social studies content and instructional strategies for assigned grades or content area based on targeted school needs and identified teacher needs.
7. Provides follow-up support at the school level for district mandated professional development in social studies.
8. Supports school leadership teams in development and facilitation of professional learning communities for professional study and collaborative work such as lesson study and examining student work.
9. Participate in district, regional, and/or state meetings to facilitate the implementation of standards-based instruction.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of successful social studies classroom teaching experience with expertise in the social sciences. Experience with planning and conducting professional development. Skill in developing multi-media presentations. Must have the ability to manage projects, facilitate groups, analyze data, and communicate effectively. Experience in CRISS training preferred.

Certifications & Licenses: Any Social Studies (6-12) Certification.
