Biosciences is the IC's newest division. The field of bioscience represents one of the fastest growing industries in the country. With the United States' growing and increasingly aging population, the demand to develop new technologies and medicines has never been higher - and the career opportunities never greater. The bioscience program will help students to develop skills and capabilities in bioscience and biomedical engineering. Students will learn fundamental and advanced skills in biotechnology lab techniques and apply engineering design processes to the development of novel prototypes (prosthetics, for example). Students will work closely with mentors from industry and learn what it is like to pursue a career in bioscience. Where Advanced Placement biology teaches students fundamental concepts in biology, the bioscience program will enable students to apply that learning and become proficient in the skills needed in a research and development environment. Elements of the program this position will oversee will include:
